After the Pandemic Special, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are back with a new special episode: South ParQ: Vaccination Special. Even though this year will not have a full season of South Park, fans can console themselves with this new special episode. Unfortunately, this second TV movie is not as effective as the first. An episode aired last Thursday night on Comedy Central.
South Park : Trey Parker and Matt Stone want to go back to their roots
With this Vaccination Special, the duo unfortunately lacks renewal. The two creators seem deprived of inspiration and are content to deliver an uneven adventure, and clearly down from the previous episode and the last seasons. Obviously, Trey Parker and Matt Stone had less to tell, and are running out of steam in an adventure devoid of spice. Rather than talking, for example, about the storming of the Capitol, the two artists return to the subject of COVID, this time, through the prism of vaccination. The opportunity to offer a very good valve for the old, only vaccinated, who become the new scum of South Park. Against all odds, Trey Parker and Matt Stone put aside Randy Marsh, practically absent from this new episode. He who was the main character of these last seasons, is totally erased in this new adventure, to return to the fundamentals. The duo preferred to write a story about the cult quartet composed of Stan, Kye, Cartman and Kenny. An old-fashioned dynamic, absent now for several years. The two artists want to offer their fans a return to their roots with this question: does this quartet still work? And presumably, as the characters themselves suggest, this brotherhood no longer advances, no longer walks, and ends up going around in circles. Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to reunite the 4 characters one last time, to make a cross on them, and give them time to say goodbye. A way to give them a last lap, before returning to the peregrinations of Randy (or others).
Less to tell
Unfortunately, this new opus lacks thickness, and body. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have less to talk about than during the Pandemic Special. And you can feel it. Especially in terms of rhythm, totally disjointed. This Vaccination Special takes a long time to take off, and does not reach the hilarious madness of the conclusion of the previous opus. A softer and less effective show then emerges. Similarly, the chemistry between the four heroes runs out of steam. The result is a tired program, which skims its valves and situations. Fortunately, the creators of South Park still reserve us some great moments. This is the case, for example, with the character of Garrison, back in South Park. The protagonist evolves once again, to become the teacher of the first hours of the show. After his time as President of the USA, here he is back in the small town of Colorado, and it's quite hilarious. Mr. Slave is replaced by Mr. Service, Mr. White is still a staunch supporter of Garrison, while his former position as President haunts him all the way to South Park. Trey Parker and Matt Stone go even further by breaking the fourth wall, the time of a pleasurable sequence, where Garrison is manipulated by the two creators, who take the place of God. The latter transform reality, play with the senses of the spectator for a memorable scene, where WTF dominates. Trey Parker and Matt Stone also return to their roots with Garrison, bringing him back to his status as a teacher. They even go so far as to resurrect Mr. Toc, which does not hold anything good for the future. https://youtu.be/sO5h_M6dn6M
