We were looking forward to it and here it is finally: the closing episode of the Netflix series Sense8 was released this Friday, June 8. After the catastrophic announcement of the cancellation of the series last June, Netflix finally agreed (in view, among other things, of the many fan petitions in favor of a return of the series) to make a single episode in order to offer a real end to our sensors. Check out our spoiler-free review of Sense8's endpoint below.

A small recap is necessary even before watching the episode. Concretely, what is Sense8 and above all, where did we leave the series last May? Sense8 is eight individuals living in the four corners of the planet who suddenly find themselves connected by a psychic and sensory link that is rather difficult to explain. They can at any time talk to each other, hear each other, see each other, and even interact in place of others without them being physically present. They barely have time to become aware of what connects them when they are pursued by a specialized agency, the OPL, which seeks to neutralize them for a reason they have yet to discover.

Warning spoilers of season 2: At the end of the second season, Wolfgang is held prisoner by the OPL following the betrayal of Lila, a sensitive from another circle. In revenge and hope to get their friend back, Will, Riley, Kala, Nomi, Sun, Capheus and Lito manage to capture Whispers, the mastermind of the OPL, as well as Jonas.

"Amor Vincit Omnia."

"Love always triumphs." This verse of Virgil that gives its name to our famous episode synthesizes in a few words the essence of the episode, and even of the series. Indeed, Sense8 would never have been able to see the light of day again if it had not been for the love of his fans. And love, believe us, is not left out! The episode, true to the rest of the series, focuses on the evolution of these characters we love so much; And if the sensitive are of course at the heart of everything, the secondary characters are not put on the sidelines. Everyone is there and all are entitled to their presence on the screen, their moment of glory and especially their goodbye.

The connection between the sensories is now established, no need to explain at length the principle of this connection: as from the beginning, Sense8 is a series focused on the feeling and it does not change a hair in this episode. It's fluid, it's powerful, it brings tears to our eyes and it makes us laugh, in short: we find everything we love about Sense8.

Sense8 Finale Unit 01280 R.0 Review "Sense8" - final episode (Netflix): Love always triumphs

Paris, Paris, Paris!

The French capital, the city of love, culture and good bread: as you can see, the city of Paris hosted a huge part of the filming of this final episode! Between the Eiffel Tower and the apartment in which our favorite circle of sensitives took refuge, there is no shortage of images of the French capital. It should be noted in particular the exceptional nature of the last half hour of the episode during which takes place one of the most anticipated scenes by fans in an absolutely exceptional place of the capital!

The France seems to have been honored in this episode: would the city of love have conquered Lana Wachowski's heart so much? Between a frequent use of French and the obvious but funny demonstration of the Parisian cliché, we can not doubt for a moment that this is a form of declaration of love to fans, as a way of saying one last time in pictures "I love you" from a city symbol of humanism and love.

Everything goes very fast

Despite all the love we have for Sense8, it should nevertheless be noted that this last episode whose role is to end the series is indeed felt as a conclusion a little hasty. Of course, as Lana Wachowski had planned a third full season for 2018, everything condenses into 2h30 (the equivalent of two and a half episodes) and everything goes a little fast. Too fast? Maybe a little too fast, yes. Still, the action scenes are very numerous, rather bloody, but still amazing, and we still manage to find a few moments of respite in quieter scenes, sometimes funny, sometimes romantic. The frantic pace of the episode, despite an absolutely perfect editing, plunges us quickly and entirely into the plot, sometimes not even leaving us time to understand everything. It must be admitted that they were numerous, these moments when we wonder if it is worth going back a few seconds; But the beauty of the series catches up with us and we let ourselves once again be carried away by the wave.

It is always a very sad thing to witness the end of a wonder such as Sense8. This last episode is the proof, union and love are strength and it is indeed the strength of Sense8 fans that allowed the series to rise from the ashes for a last breath. The adventure ended but the series has left an overflowing imprint of love, freedom, tolerance and so many other virtues that fans keep rediscovering and will not soon forget. The entire series is available on Netflix since June 8, 2018.
