To the delight of fans of The Mortals Instruments saga, Shadowhunters is back for the second part of season 2 of the series! Find here our opinion.
The episode begins with a great fight scene between Alec and Jace. But immediately after, the series offers us a focus on each character, which makes the episode long and quite boring. On the one hand, we have Izzy, who is trying to fight his addiction, Simon who has to get used to his new condition as a daytime vampire, Luke takes care of his pack, among others. On the other side, the institute and all the shadowhunters take care of Valentin and go back in search of the deadly cup.
Soon enough, Jace finally confesses to Clary that he is not, contrary to what they thought, her brother. This revelation will probably bring back to the forefront the love triangle Simon/Clary/Jace. As for Alec and Magnus, their relationship is still better, and the latter shows once again its power here.
Setting up the rest of the season
The first new character in the episode is a superior demon, Azazel. Like everyone else, he searches for the deadly cup, and is ready to do anything to find it. But the most important apparition here is that of Sebastian. Everyone who has read the saga knows the impact of its arrival for the rest of the series!
At the end of the episode, Azazel touches Magnus' head, then Valentin's. Did he do anything to the sorcerer's powers? Will this allow Valentin to escape?
An average episode, but…
This first episode is far from good one of the best of the series. But it introduces very well two new characters, who promise to be explosive in the rest of the series. Some secondary characters are still well exploited, like Izzy, Maia or Rafael. Let's hope that this second part raises the level of the whole season!
