Explore the World is much more than a children's show! Netflix's original creation is interested in the existential questions we ask ourselves and answers them with scientific information, all while having fun.
However, we are far from the sometimes cheesy science shows. In Explore the World, the episodes are worked to make you want: the special effects are worthy of science fiction movies, the punchy jokes and the entertaining games.
Each episode follows a theme and deciphers it in depth with the help of scientific experiments, games or tests with an audience. The subject is introduced by a scenario and the whole is orchestrated by the brilliant Sahana Srinivasan. The young woman, a student at the University of Texas, manages to combine humor with an impertinent tone and very clear explanations.
She is accompanied by Alie Ward who represents the equivalent of the "science friend ", present in all the science shows for children. The show seems to want to keep traditional bases to then give itself liberties on the substance of the episodes. The realization has managed to totally renew the genre.
Popular themes
Through this show, science seems accessible because it is delivered with references of popular culture of all kinds, such as an episode on superheroes with fake Marvel characters or the episode on space that begins with a reference to Star Wars.
However, the documentary goes much further than traditional science and explores other themes such as the first episode which is reserved for social networks. It is also a way to raise awareness of the reality of what is happening on the Internet.
Science is opening up to other social topics such as motivation or emotions, always with a scientific basis that explains, for example, human reactions. Everything is always very well executed, no matter the subject! Each topic is treated with original angles and with facts that will interest even adults. The series also gives itself the role of demonstrating what is true and false in an entertaining way.
Pharrell Williams as conductor
The series continues to pique curiosity by evoking preconceived ideas: for example, the idea that when you drop food on the floor, the 5-second rule prevails. The topics are always treated by a simple fact that everyone knows to interest the reader.
Special mention to the episode on space which is surely the best done and the most impactful. You learn funny and incredible things, all with impressive special effects. We can even see the famous Pharrell Williams who is actually the productive executor of the show!
As for the visual, everything is very polished with a side a little kitsch and childish at times reminiscent of the genre of the science show for children. We sometimes switch to a much more complex realization inspired by the documentary or the film. The production has managed to execute a clever mix of the two that makes it possible to please young and old alike. This series is made for all the curious who want an answer to improbable questions like "what is the distance in kilometers from earth to space?" or "How many bacteria do we have in the body?".
Explore the World is the series you need without even knowing it! Once started, you won't be able to stop looking at it. The show is based on topics that interest everyone with worked and well-finished images. Goodbye It's not rocket science and papier-mâché replicas!
