These last five episodes of The Haunting of Hill House tell us about Nell's funeral and the confrontation of the rest of the Crain family against their demons.

The four surviving children and their father reunite to bury Nell and reluctantly, reunite in Hill House. In parallel, we discover the traumatic events they have experienced.

Family is at the heart of the series. The main theme is finding one's place in the family. The tragedies have distanced them and then brought them closer. This is a parallel that could be drawn in everyday life. The characters are complex and realistic. We gradually discover the ambivalent personality of Olivia, the mother.

The reasons for his death are revealed with logic while keeping a part of mystery. His premonitory dreams or not are scary enough and very successful. The clues dispensed as the first episodes are solidified in the last.

From a filmmaking point of view, a remarkable sequence shot brings us to life the vigil of Nell's body by members of the Crin family. This risk-taking gives an even greater impression of immersion within this family that finds itself. The music pleasantly accompanies the series without it becoming redundant or annoying.

The special effects are mastered and again, do not seem disproportionate. However, some makeup can leave something to be desired.

The sets are still beautiful. The house is an entity in its own right. The passage of different eras thanks to the dreams of the mother allows to better understand the functioning of the house. It is a mixture of castle and haunted house that takes on some original features while paying homage to some famous movies.

The credits also highlight Hill House . The labyrinth and the handles with the effigy of a lion refer to sequences from the series or elements of scenery. We understand better over the episodes the role of certain objects of the house. As for the credits themselves, it looks like an adventure series credits while adding a mysterious touch that fits perfectly with The Haunting of Hill House.

Houses have a special importance in the series. The characters talk about it a lot. Some have plans to build a house, others to repair it etc … Members of the Crain family seem haunted by the house more than by ghosts.

The story makes a nice loop. The writers take us where they want us to go. Spectators are transported into this universe. The series is breathless and we are dying to know the mysteries that haunt the rooms of Hill House.

Indeed, finally knows very little about the creation of Hill House. Thanks to the Dudleys, we learn things about the previous owners, but in the end, it is exploited just enough so that the viewer does not feel dropped in front of the various ghosts. Some mysteries remain unsolved, such as the long gentleman who scares Luke so much. Besides, we do not know how Father Hugh discovered the mysteries of the house.

However, to our delight, the most important mystery is solved. We now know what is behind this strange red door locked.

Even if the house of Hill House did not reveal all its secrets, the conclusion of this first season was more than positive. Realistic and intelligent characters, a haunted and scary house and a cinematic realization make you devour The Haunting of Hill House!
