After being adapted to the cinema in 2009 (with Zack Snyder directing), the successful comic book Watchmen, will soon return to the small screen. Watchmen was created and developed in 1986 by Alan Moore (writer), Dave Gibbons (penciler) and John Higgins (colorist). The pilot of the series will be directed by Damon Lindelof – one of the creators of LOST and The Leftovers – and will air on HBO. This new series, whose release date has not yet been announced, will not be a literal adaptation of the comics but will be inspired by them and develop a whole new plot.

Jeremy Irons – who recently starred in Borgias and played Alfred in the films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League – has just signed on to play one of the series' main characters, described as the imperious and aging lord of an English mansion.

It was also announced that Regina King (who starred in The Leftovers and American Crime ) and Don Johnson (known for playing James "Sonny" Crockett in the original series Two Cops in Miami) will be part of the cast. Details about their characters have not yet been revealed. Also starring Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard in the series.

It was on Instagram that Damon Lindelof revealed in more detail his project for Watchmen and explained to fans of the comic book that they should not expect a direct adaptation of the comic:
