On Thursday, June 21, MTV president Chris McCarthy announced: Daria, the cult series of the 90s will return to our screens. Renamed Daria and Jodie, the reboot will take a fresh look at society. The two young women will bring to the world a "satirical spirit," says MTV in its statement.
Born in the 90's, the misanthropic heroine is seen for the first time in Beavis and Butt-Head, another animated series. Very quickly she enchants the public in her own series Daria. Broadcast between 1997 and 2002 on MTV it is also present in France on Canal +. His jaded look at society and his acidic remarks made many laugh.
Nostalgia strikes.
After the reboot of Charmed or Magnum, Daria will also experience a new era. The series will focus on Daria, but also on Jodie Landon, the heroine's African-American friend. The series is now called Daria & Jodie. The show is turning to the age of social networks. Daria's criticism and sarcasm find fertile ground."These two smart young women approach the world in a satirical way while deconstructing popular culture, class, gender and race," MTV says.
Screenwriter Grace Edwards (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Inside Amy Schumer) was chosen to lead the project and write the screenplay. For the moment, no release schedule is communicated. MTV, however, wants to broadcast the reboot on streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu, to more easily reach the target audience.
