Japonisme 2018, souls in resonance

France and Japan have enjoyed economic, political and cultural relations for 160 years. If Japan, at the end of a period of isolationism of nearly 200 years (from 1641 to 1853), is mainly interested in technological advances, the France develops a keen interest in Japanese culture and arts. Artists, intellectuals and the general public are passionate about this exotic culture. Japonisme was born! The fortune of this current has crossed the decades, offering Western art a renewal of subjects, but also in framing, color and craftsmanship in general.

Japonisme 2018 Japan Expo

Since 1858, Franco-Japanese relations have had their ups and downs, but mutual admiration for culture and art has brought the two nations closer together.

Today, Japan Expo invites its visitors to participate in these celebrations with, among other things, a public lecture on this celebration that begins everywhere in France in July 2018, a concert of progressive traditional music highlighting the Japanese drum (taiko) and the shamisen, an ancient stringed instrument, very popular.

Space Opera: two anniversaries

Cobra

The other highlight of the convention is the spotlight on Japanese Space Opera with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cowboy Bebop in the presence of screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, director Shinishiro Watanabe and director Masahiko Minami. It will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Space Adventure Cobra series with, as guest of honor, its creator Buichi Terasawa and an exhibition of original boards on 150m².

Fans of the 1970s series Space Battleship Yamato will be able to meet the XEBEC studio team behind the Space Battleship Yamato 2022: Warriors of Love remake at a conference and find an exhibition on the subject.

Both themes are highlighted in this year's envelope competition .
