Wonder Woman, Goddess of War: Insurrection, or Diana for the intimates returns draped in a beautiful cover bound to Urban Comics, to follow her adventures with Mount Olympus.

For those who need a little reminder, the previous series consisted of 6 volumes, Wonder Woman then discovered her true origins, and faced the Greek divine pantheon. For those who have not gone as far in their reading, go your way, and read his adventures quickly so as not to be spoiled by the next lines!

With great power comes great responsibility…

The first thing you'll notice when opening Insurrection is the dark and dark side of the drawings. We are immediately put in the mood, although they are colorful, the contrast remains striking if we open the previous series. Indeed, she is known for her brighter, brighter colors that gave a softer side to the drawings and Wonder Woman. Here, we find a sexier, more mature Diana… more tormented. Everything stems of course from this famous war with Mount Olympus, Wonder Woman learns that her father is Zeus, making her a demigoddess (no less!). Unfortunately, she finds herself in the middle of a war that does not really concern her…And Ares, her mentor, dies, bequeathing her role and burden to Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman thus finds herself at the head of the Amazons people, and she will have to redouble her efforts to be accepted. Indeed, it is difficult for this beautiful brunette to face all her responsibilities, as a member of Justice League, Queen of the Amazons, and finally Goddess of War. If the Amazons can only blame Diana for her absence, the Justice League doubts the possibility for Wonder Woman to remain herself. War is only hatred, rage, pain, and death. Thus, she will be confronted with roles that do not correspond to her, everyone always expecting more from her. We feel very strongly the tension that Diana feels in the face of all this, we understand how much she feels alone and helpless.

Wonder Woman Goddess of War

We find ourselves on a different point of view, Finch puts aside the divines who populated the series of Azzarello, it was an exciting universe, but indeed centered on the gods and the Amazons. Here, we return to a Wonder Woman, more classic, making the link with Superman and the Justice League, to show the reader that before the gods, and the Amazons, she too had an already busy life. We imagine that it is also a question of making the link with the adventures of Superman / Wonder Woman (Note that the first volume is available since January 22nd!)

Hard to do better for a transition scenario

Regrettably, Wonder Woman is the main but also secondary focus of this volume. There is no real secondary character who stands out, everything revolves around her. If this may seem like a logical continuation of the previous series, we could say that Diana is sorely lacking in the optimism that characterizes her so well. Fortunately, her courage, and her warrior abilities are at the rendezvous for an expected but no less successful finale. Regarding the drawings, we clearly do not find Cliff Chiang's Wonder Woman, but we can not say that she is not pretty. If the whole is beautiful and colorful, some boards are however uneven. While her physique is more mature in Insurrection, some drawings make her too young compared to what we are shown throughout the adventure.

If we can not speak of disappointment in front of a scenario that ignores the key characters of Azzarello, we nevertheless hope that later they will not be forgotten, and that they will also have their place alongside the famous warrior.

Result of the races, it is an intermediate volume, which poses no problem, it is only consequences that flow directly from the 6th volume.Wonder Woman: Insurrection, is not original, but will understand the state of mind of the warrior and the situation in which she finds herself. All the changes that take place will be directly reflected in the next volumes, and if Diana's new costume is no longer a mystery, we already suspect that the goddess of war has many surprises in store for us.
