Gradually, the series of ninja turtles is establishing itself as a must in superhero comics even if it is still too confidential. How about joining this group of Alaskan heroes in New York in this volume 13 published by Hi comics ?
Start the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Volume 13
If you do not know about ninja turtles at all, you will have the chance to discover a great moment of reading. Don't be afraid of numbering. Indeed, this thirteenth volume is perhaps the easiest to access because it contains two complete stories with links to the previous episodes quite loose. The first chapter is an adventure in the snow that is totally accessible to a new reader. Two heroes, Nobody equipped with his armor and the turtle Raphael go to help the mutant wolf Alopex who has fled to Alaska. She blames herself because, bewitched, she allowed the release of the witch Kitsune. This return to his natural space does not bring him the hoped-for peace. Worse, she feels his influence when she still sees Kitsune in her dreams and in the water of the river.
In the second adventure of this volume, when everyone has returned to New York, Slash a giant tortoise is attacked by commandos. This army is ready to do anything to anesthetize it, even if it means collapsing a building. This attack is organized by a government army, the Earth Protection Force or FTP. She was created to fight monsters and recruited mercenaries from the Dark Water company. All this part is unknown to the French reader because it is published in a parallel series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe. However, the dialogues make it easy to understand everything without feeling any frustration.
Beyond the action, the narrative is also profound. The dialogue between Nobody and Raphael is also a parable of racism. Raphaël loves Alopex but refuses to say so because they are different species. In talking with Nobody, he understands that his feelings are stronger than these differences. Later, Agent Bishop claims to defend the purity of humanity upset by the appearance of mutants. By Dark Water, the screenwriter who is also a veteran, shows that the war has been privatized with mercenary companies.
Continue the series in volume 13
The reader who was able to follow all or part of the series should not miss this episode because, under the aspect of discreet adventures, it is one of the recent peaks of the series. The scenario remains admirable of tension but also of heat.
This thirteenth album of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles offers the reader a reunion with the mutanimals that continue to multiply since volume zero but also to evolve. Slash, the turtle educates at full speed. From a bully in the early episodes, he became a reader of Steinbeck. These mutanimals are no longer foils but the screenwriter takes with them the technique that worked so well with turtles. Starting from a group with the same origins, he densifies and diversifies the characters. Since Michelangelo had temporarily joined the group, the reader understands the individualities much better and each one is impressive, funny or touching.
Having left the Foot clan, the brothers are back in the tunnels. Leonardo having trouble organizing the work with his brothers goes to see his father. The relationship with others is often complicated. This can happen in the family. A moment of rest between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turns into a fraternal crisis: Leonardo wants the team to prepare for future conflicts while Raphael wants to think about him. Mike, inspired by his comic book readings, wants to help the weak. Although turtles are formidable fighters, they are still all teenagers. However, the exterior is not always nicer. The Kitsune witch claims to want to complete the she-wolf's initiation but, in reality, she wants to subdue her.
Volume 13 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is also in continuity from the point of view of the drawings because, the first episode is the work of Sophie Campbell, crossed in volume 4. The precise and agile shapes make reading very enjoyable but the brutal and sloppy inking does not honor it. All the other chapters are by the great Mateus Santolouco who reaches here heights of precision. We want to touch the hair of the mutant cat even if it would reward us in return with a deadly claw. Its layout, without ever overdoing it is fantastic precision and fluidity. The scenes of hand-to-hand fights between mutants are engaging.
Volume thirteen of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is therefore an action-packed volume with the surprise attack of a former ally, the siege of an apartment and a flight into the city. But punches aren't the title's only trump card. Among these siblings, the texts full of love and the images so sweet do so much good in these times when the family is sometimes far away!
