While a new CG movie is in the works, Hi Comics continues to publish the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. Get started and you may be the first of your entourage to share this series far too little known in France.
A volume of reminders
Volume 10 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a relaunch after an exceptional ending. The Foot clan, a mafia group of Japanese origin, led by Shredder and his daughter, wanted to take power over the New York underworld. But this plan was thwarted by the Ninja Turtles (Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphaello) and their leader, the rat Splinter who killed Shredder. On the night of the victory, Shredder's daughter asked Splinter to become the new leader of the clan to transform it. The action starts from the first squares when three turtles prevent a mafia encounter. This mission is commanded by their master Splinter to demonstrate that the clan remains powerful even if its mission has changed: henceforth, it fights crime without killing. Within the ninjas of the clan and among the turtles, not all are convinced. Even Splinter is confused in his role as clan leader. Disgusted, his son Michelangelo left. He is approached by the Old Hot clan, a group of mutanimals who want to recruit him. He is tempted by the good atmosphere. All this is observed by Darkwaters, a government agency. Another serious threat looms. The Kitsuné witch has an immortal family that prepares a tournament to determine the most powerful fighter. But this game is likely to be deadly for humanity.
From new to old
The neophyte discovers a much deeper universe than he thought. The reader who has followed the entire series meets new characters. A trio calling themselves the ghosts of the streets wear metal helmets and long capes with hoods. Characters gradually become deeper. Casey, a mere human, had decided to patrol the streets. He had become friends with turtles but became radicalized by hitting mobsters before they acted. Fans of the series include allusions to previous stories. Raphaello finds Michelangelo to bring him back to the family because he experienced this wandering at the beginning of the series. Themes recur with different groups in conflict even if the camps have changed. No one can be trusted because betrayals are numerous. The big highlight of this comic is the scenario of Kevin Eastman, one of the two creators of the original comic, and Tom Waltz, the same writer since the relaunch of the series. The cartoonists, Ken Garing for the first two chapters and Michael Dialynas, change for this volume. Their rawer style, as drawn in felt, may surprise or disappoint but remains very faithful to the original comics. This tenth volume is, again, a great success. Turtles always defend the good without fail. It's comforting in an often cynical world. The scenario makes you forget the more uneven drawing. In this transition volume, many questions are raised and we can't wait to read on to see how turtles will face increasingly serious threats. It lacks the separate episodes on each of the villains and heroes of the series. This should be the subject of a crowdfunding project announced soon.
