Does the prospect of family meals for Christmas stress you? What would you say if, in addition, you could discover the thoughts of the guests? Here is Safrane Chu's menu and it is a four star.

An appetizing series

Safrane Chu by Dan Boultwood and John Layman In Tony Chu – Cannibal Detective, John Layman and Rob Guillory offered a very original series. Tony Chu was a policeman without much stature but he is a cibopath, that is, he can psychically read the past of everything he eats. A gift certainly useful for an investigation but it is still impractical to eat the corpses. A new, more copious edition, in full, comes out at the end of the month. After the success of the series in twelve volumes, the same writer extends this universe with the adventures of Safrane, Tony's sister. This first volume takes place before the main series and therefore introduces us to the beginnings of avian influenza. It is because of this unfortunate indigestion that Tony Chu teams up with the vulgar John Colby. The screenwriter entrusted Dan Boultwood with the drawings. The series remains in a style as cartoony as Rob Guillory but where digital colorization is more visible. His style forms a perfect contrast when geysers come out of the mouths of victims of contaminated chickens. It illustrates Safrane's gift through color. A neon rose shows that she secretly shares the meal of bank employees. However, the theme is slightly different. If Tony Chu is a cibopath, his youngest a cibopar because she can read the thoughts of everyone with whom she eats. If Tony is a police officer, Safrane is a criminal wanted by all the police on the planet.

Will you resume a spin-off series?

Safrane Chu at Delcourt Food remains at the center in Safrane Chu and this from the first page when criminals eat a cake representing the bank so that Safrane spots the scene of a heist. It is also the source of great laughter when this whole criminal operation is called into question by a problem of digestion. It is therefore best to avoid tasting this volume in times of great hunger or digestion. Characters from the main series return. Tony Chu and his teammates are tasked with investigating the robbery. Safrane must therefore hide from her brother but also escape from a professional, Monsieur Meurtre, in charge of eliminating him. This younger sister only makes bad choices. His lover is not only a thief without stature but he does not hesitate to divert the killer to a relative of his companion. More than a solo series, Safrane Chu is a dive into a family that we discover during a family meal. This interesting track is sometimes spoiled by the desire to constantly connect with avian influenza. The rest will perhaps show a more logical construction. The Chu, however, have a very elastic relationship with the truth. Everyone does not hesitate to resort to beet juice to prevent Tony from discovering the truth. Proposed by Delcourt, the first volume of Safrane Chu whets our appetite by offering you a meal, sorry a funny full story but above all read well to the end not to miss the post-credits sequence. Equally delirious and constantly hilarious, Safrane Chu is much more than a trivial bonus from the first series but the introduction of the entire Chu family. It is very likely that after this appetizer, you will embark on the full meal with Tony Chu. You can also find other titles just as crazy with And in the end, they die or Robilar.
