The most dysfunctional family of cartoons returns… but in comics and this time she shows the fangs in volume 8 of Rick & Morty released in July by Hi comics.
Rick & Morty at Twilight
This new volume brings together four of the most recent stories as well as short stories of a few bonus pages. The first episode, centered on the family's two grandchildren, Morty and Summer, is a very funny and irreverent parody of a high school story. In the first page of a past story, teenager Summer is splattered with blood as she drives three stakes into Coach Feratu's body. The sports meeting in the children's high school had indeed been disrupted by the arrival of vampires. In the present, the teenager and his brother are kidnapped in retaliation by a clan of vampires. To the delight of the reader, these beings of the night turn out to be pathetic. When a beginner refuses to bite without the consent of the victim, the head of the clan lectures these young people singularly lacking in ambition and savagery. In front of them, Rick is ready for war thanks to his arsenal: a stake bracelet and even a Bible gun. The success of this first story is due to the very good knowledge by the artists of vampire stories. For example, the Smith family will come across succubi inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's film Dracula during their adventures. The success of this spin-off series is also due to the stability of the creative team. As in most episodes, the storyline is by Kyle Starks assisted by Tini Howard in the first story. The drawings are as often by Marc Ellerby. This solid base is reinforced by the arrival of newcomers with Josh Trujillo's writer and cartoonists Katy Farina and Rii Abrego. The fan of the series will find characters crossed on the screens. Morty is always ready to do anything to stop being a virgin… even if it means selling his soul. Like an unbearable teenager, Summer teaches young vampires a lesson on the theme: how to piss off her parents? These adults are totally overwhelmed by their offspring. Rick uses his grandson's body to hide weapons. His daughter, Beth, is worried about her son's future… but she hasn't noticed Summer's disappearance in three days. Anyway her life is a failure since her meeting with her husband Jerry. Indeed, it is even more pathetic (and therefore funny) than in the cartoon. The next story is a solo adventure of Jerry. This series of jokes starts when he realizes the theft of his slogan. Then, stuck in the middle of the city in a wolf trap, he will have to help organize the robbery of a bank. 
Comics at Fortnite
In the third story, the parody of Fortnite is also very successful. Rick and Morty are stuck in the Survival Arena Murder Time which is close to the online game… Except that we see the blood and that a green and hairy cyclops comments on each action. This competition has for stakes for a stay in Labezz, a private moon. This name certainly means exceptional moment in the local language, but when a rich alien tells them that his body is ready for Labezz it takes on another meaning. In the space adventure that follows, the duo, arrested because of cakes, find themselves in the same prison ship as a crime lord, Teufeur Clebs. This new volume allows fans to immerse themselves in the crazy universe of the series. Once closed, this volume demonstrates once again that the comics are at least as acidic, nasty… and therefore funny as the cartoon.
