[Criticism] Nightwing Rebirth – Volume 1: Stronger than Batman

On the occasion of the DC Comics Renaissance , Nightwing returns in new adventures. Published under the Urban Comics label, Dick Grayson is back. Our review.

A double agent. A man who pretended to be dead… But now Dick Grayson is back, and he's coming back to Gotham as Nightwing! But finding your old life is not as easy as expected… especially when he has to face the mysterious Court of Owls, and his only ally is a masked man named Raptor, who has the appearance of an enemy. To get by, Nightwing will have to do at least as well as his mentor, if not better…

When we talk about Nightwing, we can't help but think of Dick Grayson, former Robin, ward of Bruce Batman Wayne. However, in recent years, Nightwing has been a real title in its own right at the publisher DC Comics. After an eventful period for the character during the New 52 (to be discovered in Grayson at Urban Comics) in the Spyral organization, where he had abandoned his costume, here is the hero embarked on new adventures.

The return of the Court of Owls

This time, it's the Court of Owls that is causing problems for Dick. They managed to plant a bomb in the head of Damian Wayne aka Robin. If he does not obey, his head will explode. After a few adventures, Dick Grayson takes the opportunity to infiltrate the organization. So here he is taking the costume of Nightwing. Linking strong themes such as politics and espionage, this first volume is a pleasure to discover. The character of Nightwing has always pleased fans through worked and accomplished stories. The addition of the character of Raptor is exciting, hoping to see him appear one day in other publications of the universe. Tim Seeley, the screenwriter manages without difficulty to intertwine his story by posing new situations and excellent dialogues.

On the drawing side, after a first chapter provided by Yanick Paquette, it is Javier Fernandez who takes care of the rest. The two styles, although different, offer fair and applied designs. The real plus is the treatment of the action scenes, including the acrobatics of the character. One more reason to discover the new version of this character!

Urban Comics continues the edition of Rebirth through a first volume with a beautiful cover. Inside, in addition to the Rebirth issue #1, we find chapters 1 to 8 as well as a gallery of alternative covers and research work on character design. Why deprive yourself when the quality is at the rendezvous?

In conclusion, Nightwing Rebirth – Volume 1: Stronger than Batman is a breath of fresh air that is difficult to close while reading. In addition to a strong story and quality drawings, the treatment of the hero is almost perfect. Urban Comics continues its editions on a regular basis to the delight of fans.
