Dick Grayson lost his acrobatic parents in an accident. Adopted by Bruce Wayne, Dick becomes Batman's sidekick under the alias Robin after discovering Bruce's secret. Over the years, he gradually emancipates himself from the paternal shadow by becoming Nightwing.
A successful relaunch for Nightwing
Dick Grayson has played the role of Batman during a disappearance of Bruce in the past. At the beginning of this volume published by Urban Comics, his adoptive father having returned, Dick is very happy to find his bearings. He leaves the responsibility of being the major hero of Gotham to become Nightwing again. He finally leaves Wayne Manor with his family for a single life in his apartment. A return to normal that is coupled with a return to its roots. Indeed, the Haly circus where his parents worked has just arrived in town. However, a murder at the end of the first episode makes Dick the new owner of the circus. Should he accompany the artists or keep his habits? 
This first volume of the complete book is part of the New 52 era, a global policy of the publisher DC Comics. This relaunch of almost all the series was intended to bring in new readers. In the Nightwing series, this is marked by a reset of old adventures. We do not need to know the old episodes, because the recent or old past is gradually explained in the dialogues. The entire series was written by Kyle Higgins, who is very successful in this relaunch. He is not satisfied with the specifications, but takes advantage of the context to take an interest in Dick's past before being Robin. Indeed, by the arrival of the circus, Dick's entire childhood is renewed. We discover his youth of homelessness in a circus when Dick finds childhood friends, but some have changed. Relatives also intervene like the superheroine Batgirl.
Acrobatics in Gotham
Nightwing is also a very good action series. Dick fights against black magic, political groups, supervillains… Not only does Nightwing suffer its own threats, but the series is also concerned with the upheavals of Batman. Dick is, like his mentor, touched by the secret group of the Court of Owls. The screenwriter makes this participation exciting by enriching Dick's past. By his genealogy, he is supposed to be the official killer of the Court. But is a man's destiny written in his genes? In the last part of the integral, it is the return of the Joker that turns everything upside down.
An unknown character
This volume is the gateway to discover a little-known character in France. Far from being just Batman's former sidekick, Nightwing embodies the bright ideal in the Bat universe. More optimistic than his mentor, he believes that his action has weight and can move the lines. Through his past as the son of a superhero, who himself grew up surrounded by superheroes, the reader who also grew up with superhero comics can feel connected. He is not a superman with exceptional powers, but the fights are all the more "realistic". This volume offers many splendid opportunities to illustrate Dick's urban acrobatics. His city then becomes a jungle but also a playground. We can mention the talent of the cartoonist Eddy Barrows who makes the combat boxes fluid and very dynamic. His extremely precise and realistic style works wonders. The first volume of this integral is the brilliant demonstration that a series of superheroes is not just a succession of fights. When the screenwriter is gifted, he transforms a hero into a man divided by his moral dilemmas, an adult into a man burdened with a complex childhood. When the cartoonist is talented, he turns an urban fight scene into a ballet between buildings.
