Urban Comics has just published the DC Universe Rebirth, a compendium of all DC Comics Rebirth titles. Our review
Comic book publishers regularly try to make their universe accessible to new readers. DC Comics has been around since 1934 and the universe of its characters has undergone many changes over the years. After the New 52 (Renaissance in France) covering the period 2011-2016, the publisher launched Rebirth, a complete overhaul of its universe and characters. It is the turn of Urban Comics, the French publisher to offer this Rebirth through a very rich first book entitled DC Universe Rebirth. The good idea is to offer readers all the Rebirth issues of the publisher's regular series. A golden opportunity to discover or rediscover the characters that we have enjoyed following for years.
This huge 592-page block is both good and bad news for the reader. Indeed, DC Universe Rebirth presents us with 23 serial numbers. From Batman to Wonder Woman to Green Arrow and Red Hood and the Outlaws, there's something for everyone! The problem? Urban Comics will certainly not publish all the series in VF and this may make disappointed…

We offer you our top 3 series not to be missed:
Green Arrow Rebirth #1
The series returns to basics with the meeting between Green Arrow and Black Canary. Written by Benjamin Percy and drawn by Otto Schmidt, this first issue is full of surprises and finally reconnects with the Archer's universe. The drawings may surprise at first, but we get used to this rather round line that gives an endearing side to the characters. And most importantly, Black Canary is back!
Deathstroke Rebirth #1
Slade Wilson is still the worst of assassins. Confronted with his past, we discover his relationship with his two sons. One thing is certain, we can only hope that Urban Comics publishes the sequel!
Superman Rebirth #1
The link is made between the end of the New 52 and the Rebirth. Superman is dead, but the former Superman is not. He wonders about his place in this world and hopes to stay with his wife Lana. Doug Manhke even reinvents the ending of the Death of Superman comic and does it pretty well!
We obviously can't talk about Rebirth without mentioning Justice League Rebirth #1. An issue present in this volume that Urban Comics has also chosen to publish in the form of a special issue on newsstands. Geoff Johns is in charge of the script that serves to make the link between the old universe and the new. The return of Wally West's character is interesting and triggers a breathless cliffhanger. Probably an issue not to be missed!
We could spend hours talking about all the series present in this volume. There are of course disappointments, like Batman Rebirth #1 which is a little stalled or Supergirl Rebirth #1 which introduces us adoptive parents straight from the CW TV series! DC Universe Rebirth is a good introduction from the publisher. Once you have opened this pavement, you will have a lot of trouble closing it as the universe sucks you in. From series to series and from characters to characters, we feel change and it feels good. We must hope that all the series will still improve over time, even if for the most part, it's off to a good start!
Urban Comics offers us a huge block of 592 pages stuffed with bonuses, with presentation of the characters, gallery of portraits and covers. A good quality glossy paper and an attractive blanket will force you to stop!
In conclusion, it would be foolish to miss DC Universe Rebirth. Bringing all these series together in one volume is an opportunity not to be missed, if only to complete your collection and choose your future purchases from the publisher Urban Comics for years to come!
