Volume 12 of the Noob series, entitled Le tournoi des espoirs, was published by Soleil on June 14, 2017.

Noobs in Tokyo

The famous Noob Guild flies to Japan in its 12th book book. It is a beautiful little tribute that Fabien Fournier, Phillipe Cardona and Florence Torta offer us from Japan and competition in the world of video game games in general through these few boards. The reader is happy to see these cartoonish heroes evolve in the emblematic settings of the Japanese capital. Each board is worked meticulously, bringing its share of winks to the geek community, delighting fans as with each new volume of the series.

E-Sport as seen by Horizon 2.0

It is clear that, even taking the tone of lightness, the team reminds us that E-Sport is serious, that it takes a whole cocktail of values to rise to the top of the ranking. The comic book obviously presents the different views of the guild that we follow throughout the book, but the points of view all converge towards the same goal when it comes to competition: victory! And although our favorite characters are all endowed with a character of their own and that the conflicts have still not evolved towards a basic agreement, the initiated or amateur reader will still remember that unity is strength even in the worst situations.

Always more fun IRL

This is a very pleasant surprise offered by volume 12 of the series, since the scenario makes you visit Japan more than it tells what happens in the game. It is thus possible to see the protagonists live their adventures in the IRL world ("in real life"), namely as everyone knows it. Their personality does not change, but it gives them more depth and an endearing side. The reader will like to follow with enthusiasm the totally banal red thread that is the quest of Kévin Lepape, alias Sparadrap. Finally, it is impossible to blame the drawings for being cliché because the comic is populated by tributes and touching jokes between friends, all of whom have a passion for video games and the geek universe.
