The Magic: the Gathering comics feature complete stories featuring many characters. This is the case again in The Forgotten Planeswalker. The fan sees Nicol Bolas, Jace Belaren or Marit Lage. In a narrative course, the reader discovers a doctor, excluded from the guilds because of his research on death. Other magicians appear at greater length. Tezzeret is nicknamed the Metal Mage. Indeed, he has a cyborg body and this mage sees himself as an engineer analyzing the mystical world. He refuses superstitions and destiny. He knows he is insignificant in the face of magical forces and therefore decides to think only of himself. This Machiavellian man is ready to do anything to increase his power. To this end, he wants to steal a book from the library of Stixhaven but opposes the magician Liliana. The dialogues of The Forgotten Planeswalker come from heroic fantasy but Tezzeret's servant is a robot. This character introduces the mix of genres proposed by screenwriter Mairghread Scott.
After this first adventure, The Forgotten Planeswalker follows Liliana. Wanting to save her brother Liliana had learned black magic, becoming the leader of the evil camp. She inspired fear to compensate for her lack of confidence. However, she settled down for love becoming a professor of necromancy at the largest university in the multiverse. The scenario avoids Manichaeism. Liliana is ambivalent because she uses the darkest magic, that of the dead, to do good. The most daring students call her timid. Yet, when she detects the call of a planeswalker beyond reality, she does not hesitate even if she is confronted by Tezzeret again.This biography reflects a strong moral: we cannot go back but we must assume our mistakes and try to improve the present.

In The Forgotten Planeswalker, the reader travels to different neighborhoods of Ravnica. Through Liliana, the reader enters the Hogwarts of Magic: the Gathering. Multiethnic, the university accepts magicians of different dimensions. In Ravnica there are different social strata. A proletarian must clean up the experiments of the magi. The monk crossed at the beginning will found such an important hospital in a previous adventure. In Ravnica, different parties clash. Guilds fight for power as a multi-ethnic terrorist group kills these leaders. These outcasts want to show that the social system is selfish.
The Forgotten Planeswalker goes beyond the simple portrait of characters. Each element is a piece of a large puzzle. If this volume can be read independently, the whole series forms a connected universe. We stay in the same spirit with many magical fights to save the multiverse. This volume takes another look at the previous adventures. We see the rescue of the world through Liliana's eyes.
The summary of The Forgotten Planeswalker highlights the Italian cartoonist French Carlomagno. However, the short stories on the first pages bring together several different cartoonists. We can admire the talent of Fabiana Mascolo. The Italian artist offers superb illumination inspired by the historical painting of thenineteenth century.
Published by Black River, The Forgotten Planeswalker proves once again the richness of a universe that adapts very well to comics. While being an independent adventure, it can be (re)read as a hectic sequel to the previous volumes around the troubled character of Liliana.
