A banquet that goes wrong
On a sunny day in Greece, the young heroine Fenyx receives a visit from the god Pan who has come to invite her to a meal organized by Tantalus, the king of Lydia. But this banquet will not be a feast because the girl is on a secret mission for her father Zeus: to discover if Tantalus stole on Olympus a mechanical gold horse offered to the king of the gods by his brother Hephaestus. Meanwhile, Tantalus reveals that he had Pelops, his eldest son, killed, and then cooked him to offer to the gods. Fenix is then tasked by Zeus to go and retrieve this innocent in hell.
Multiplying tracks – the theft of a horse, a murder, the journey to hell – and first names, the reader is a little lost in the labyrinth of Fenyx's Odyssey. Yorgos head cook of Tantalus approaches the perfection of divine food. Fenyx frees the prisoner Pantareos of Miletus who shows him the way of the dog. To illustrate all these adventures, the drawing shared by Siamh and Looky rather raw is not the greatest asset of the story. However, we can discover their work by a complete notebook at the end of the volume with sketches confronted with the scenario and various stages of the drawing.
An independent heroine
Fenyx's odyssey is planned in two volumes, a woman is the main protagonist. Fénix is present in each box and it changes peplums. She is not a young girl in distress but a heroine who has already saved Olympus. Alas, it has not obtained any recognition. His father Zeus does not deign to come down to invite him. This woman with a whole character misunderstands the complexity of the divine or earthly world. By defending a hunter, Fenix shows that she always chooses human beings over animals.
In her quest for hell, Fenyx is swept away by circumstances. The heroine faces supernatural threats – storms, a giant snake, a mighty boar – but who causes them? This road trip on foot takes place on paths and underground where the heroine meets many characters: Tantalus, Autolycos the king of thieves, Stavros ruined merchant, a cannibal harpy … As in the legends, the language is quite rich. Nykko's script respects the codes of ancient mythologies. The gods, cynical and jealous, appear without warning before human beings and give them advice or threats.
Fenyx's odyssey plunges the reader into battles between men, monsters and gods. This first volume will delight fans of legendary challenges and confrontations and every action and adventure square will delight Immortals Fenyx Rising players.
