In Vincennes, every two years, the "America Festival" takes place which makes the city vibrate to the rhythm of North American literature and culture. However, perhaps more than ever, everything suggests that 2016 is marked with ink in the color of the star-spangled flag. Indeed, to the looming US election, like a shadow over the rest of the world, is added the celebration of the 240thanniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Exact date of birth: July 4.
This festival, which brings together authors, artists, publishers, readers and enthusiasts of North American culture, will last 4 days. Four days, where literature will be put on a pedestal, around which other arts will be wrapped (cinema, music, photography …) to complete the masterpiece. Four days, to explore a culture through a prism, that of the "best observers of their time", that of fiction writers.
This 8thedition, by inviting sixty writers, wishes to testify to all the complexity and diversity of North American literature and culture. Because if the subject will be literature, the journey of the one who writes, reflections and the past that wrap his pen, it will also be a question of talking about a country. And what a country! The one that has perhaps been the best (or most horrific) successful in exporting its culture all over the world. A country that is both bright and dangerous, and therefore needs to be talked about.
This festival is the voice of men and women of letters. He wants the sound of pens on paper, the ticking of machines, fingers on the keyboard, to become words. Words, which teach, which make us open our eyes, through the magnifying glasses and binoculars, which they hold out to us.
He wants the ink placed on the pages to take another form: that of a painting. A fresco that like cave paintings tells us about an era.
