There are novels that we carry everywhere with us and that we put by force in all hands. The Sherlock Mystery is one of those novels. Published in 2012 by Buchet-Chastel, this detective story knows how to seduce all audiences.

Everyone knows Sherlock Holmes. Whether in film, series, manga or novel, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's hero has experienced all possible adventures in all formats. A fictional character very present in the cultural world since 1887. So present that some end up believing it to be real. These people are called Holmesians. They study every detail of Conan Doyle's novels, review every document of the time to prove to skeptics the existence of the famous detective.

Sherlock

A well-constructed plot

In The Sherlock Mystery these Holmesians are ten in number. They are university professors and fight fiercely for the Holy Grail: a tenured position in Sherlock Holmes' first chair in ecology. A job that will allow them to carry out their search for the truth at the expense of the university. The teachers are infiltrated by Audrey, a young journalist, in secret reporting on the world of Holmesians. All this little world met in an alpine hotel.Because of an avalanche, they find themselves stuck in the hotel, with no means of contact with the outside. It is obviously at this point that a killer chooses to eliminate all the members of the group one by one. The investigation is underway. Who will discover the identity of the assassin? Who will succeed in saving his skin?

The Sherlock Mystery

The talent of J.Mr. Erre

The plot may seem classic. A closed door, a hidden killer and victims who suspect each other. It is not. Without revealing the end, J.Mr. Erre knows how to keep the mystery throughout history. The twists are not predictable and the final twist leaves the reader completely blown away. This small investigation also opens a reflection on the genre of the detective novel. Is the reader really able to solve the mystery or is he just the plaything of the cruel writer? If J.Mr. Erre masters the detective genre, his real strength lies in humorThe Sherlock Mystery is simply hilarious. The descriptions, the narration are full of sarcasm and wit. The characters are caricatures of themselves, without sounding fake. The handsome kid with the smile Colgate or the dethroned former beauty queen are funny and well written. Despite their enormous flaws, they remain endearing and we worry about their fate.

A dose of mystery and a lot of humor, this is the winning recipe of the Sherlock Mystery. The novel is available in paperback format at 6€95 in all bookstores.
