Lanfeust has become a major epic of Franco-Belgian comics. So what comes out the new volume of the third cycle at Soleil, where is this comedy fantasy series?
A saga for everyone
The small series mixing humor and heroic fantasy adventure has changed a lot from the beginning by becoming a blockbuster. Apart from the parallel series, we are in the third season after Lanfeust de Troy and Lanfeust des Etoiles. In the same way, the characters have evolved since the beginning of this series in 1994. Lanfeust is no longer an apprentice blacksmith despised by all and divided between two suitors. He has become a god and lives among his fellows on a tropical Olympus. But even neophyte of this fun universe, you will not be lost. The classic summary at the beginning of the volume is very well done. It is discovered that Lanfeust now has four wives and a son. 
Eckmül threatened again
In previous volumes, the planet Troy was threatened by the goddess Lylth the Eternal but Lanfeust and his friends crushed this threat. Everything seems to be back to normal. On the port of Eckmül, a bowel reader – Haruspice – can again decipher the entrails to discover the future but everything is turned upside down by an attack of Lylth banshees which like a cloud of wasps kills every human being encountered. At the Eckmül Conservatory, the magicians try to survive to keep the gifts of the inhabitants but do not know how to stem the threat. They flee in a barrel on wheels to join the humans with powers.
Action mixes as always with humor
Aware of this threat, Lanfeust seeks help from the other gods. Like the Greek pantheon, they are arrogant, unpredictable and benevolent but above all very funny – the god of libraries is called Bÿh-Li which can bring back memories to followers of Swedish interior design. He knows the furniture but there are no letters in his volumes because the books are all fake. Each bookcase has an extra screw. With the help of the works of the wise Tapaëteh, the troupe of adventurers – Lanfeust, his wives and a mage – go in search of the center of the world to cause a trap that should save Troy.
What to do with a turbulent child?
Behind the banshees is also another threat, that of Glin son of Cixi and Lanfeust but especially ward of Thanos – Well, it reminds us of the Avengers. Coming from the future, he is ready to do anything to get rid of his parents. The search for the center of the world gives the opportunity to cross the world on the back of the god of the wind. Arrived on the other side of the world – in fact in the South of the France – the discussions with the locals are an opportunity to make fun of the accent of the South. Lanfeust remains quite in the background but it is often the other heroes – Cixi, Flarpaite, Hebus, who act the most. Jokes and humorous innuendo often come before the story in this volume. Amusingly, Eckmühl is a people who love umlauts for names. The vivid line drawing makes it possible to link humor and action in very pretty colors. A Karaxastin destiny is a new stone to this monument of humor in comics. Like a modern Asterix, Lanfeust manages to distract us. One might wish, however, for volumes where the action is deeper.
