The books " The Seven Relics" by Joffrey Lebourg, form a saga of heroic-fantasy literature, in a style very appreciated by all generations. Once associated with the cliché of the " nerd " or the " bespectacled geek " like the heroes of "Big Bang Theory", the genre of heroic fantasy today breaks the boundaries between people and communities.
The heroic-fantasy and its successes
Indeed, success is often at the rendezvous. For example, we can think of the adaptation of "The Witcher" or "The Witcher" — the novel by Andrzej Sapkowski, transformed into a video game and then into a Netflix production… Or following George R's "Game of Thrones". R. Martin, powered by HBO's "Game of Thrones." The "House of the Dragon" show is scheduled for August 2022, as is the Amazon series dedicated to Tolkien and his colossal work: "Rings of Power".
Joffrey Lebourg, author of the saga "The Seven Relics"
So many expected events, which are experiencing an abysmal gap with the world of literature in France. Fortunately, the artist Joffrey Lebourg displays his second publication of his very documented and voluminous work. The publishing house "Des Auteurs Des Livres " presents "Le Réveil d'Entropia", a first volume of 372 pages. The young writer had dreamed of this universe, so he decided to put it on paper. In the worthy tradition of his predecessors and his contemporaries fans of the genre, Joffrey Lebourg has swiped a card, to better guide his reader for this legendary experience.
The imagination is at the rendezvous
In order not to confuse his target, Joffrey Lebourg has chosen to draw from the bestiary mythological creatures known to all as dragons. For this whimsical story, the artist decides to put a woman on the front of the stage: the heroine Cordelia has not had an easy life. Abandoned, alone, she fights to survive in a complex universe, the Alkymia. For in the shadows lies a force, which is just waiting for its return… A quasi-divine messenger comes to announce the prophecy: Entropia longs to rise from the ashes and dominate the world, in order to plunge it into absolute chaos. Like other chosen archetypes, Cordelia struggles to understand why she was chosen by these transcendent forces. She does not seem to hold any particular power, but can rely on her friends. In the worthy spirit of role-playing games, or RPG video games — the characters fill a well-defined position, such as that of the mage. This version of "King Arthur" in the feminine aims to find the relics, which will create a unique weapon. Admittedly, this narrative is classic and does not seek to revolutionize or shake up the genre, but it has the merit of being easily understandable and therefore predictable. In reality, "heroic fantasy" is very codified. Even if it leaves a lot of room for imagination, fans of this type of reading want above all a defined framework and criteria that they love.
Modernity
However, the originality of the " Seven Relics" is also based on modern elements, mixed with a context generally inspired by the medieval. In reality, most of the characters presented are female, thus allowing a more prominent role to be given to women, often relayed as secondary characters facing a male protagonist.
Revealing the best of yourself
Moreover, Cordelia is not the princess to be rescued, she is the one entrusted with the delicate mission of saving the whole world. For this, she surrounds herself with other companions who give her the opportunity to reveal the best of herself. First, the author wanted to give it some credibility. It is not uncommon to meet characters progressing in an abnormally raw way. These species of supersoldiers experience a botched evolution, often despised by readers or spectators. Here, the writer gives time to this protagonist to grow, mature and take example from figures stronger than her. Moreover, nothing seems to stop this team, this shock troop that is advancing quickly towards the ultimate goal… Could this be a strategy of Joffrey Lebourg to sow trouble? A technique to suggest that everything will go as well in the second volume?
A new Tolkien…
Beyond the strict entertaining aspect of the book, the artist slips in some important messages, serving a committed purpose. The latter opposed the aristocracy that shamelessly ruled over other classes deemed inferior. Even if the imaginary context bears no resemblance to the modern life of individuals in the real world, this question is always transposed to it. "The awakening of Entropia" is a gentle introduction to the creativity of an already prolific young author, who deserves recognition. We can't wait to discover the rest…
