Against all odds, the comic book market is doing quite well in our countries, and, more specifically, that of manga even more! One piece, the classic shonen about pirates who have eaten (or not) demon fruit giving them all kinds of wacky power, continues to be No. 1 in sales, volume 1 continuing to be successful nearly 10 years after its first edition! A contest is also launched by Glénat until February 28th, remember to take a look if you are also a fan of Luffy, Zorro or Nami ! Among the classics, note also the release of the Akira box set in first edition, which should please fans of Katsuhiro Otomo. Other manga series also continue their momentum, such as Dr. Stone or Tokyo Revengers. Regarding shojo, several will be launched very soon, such as A touch of blue, 100 days before your death or Alter Ego.

Glénat BD : The announcements

Some Franco-Belgian comic books have also been a landmark in 2020; we think in particular of Lou Sonata by Julien Neel, which starts a new cycle, Radium Girls by Cy which was a great success and was quickly reprinted, and finally of course Peau d'Homme by Zanzim and Hubert, gold and already awarded several times. The announcements of 2021 are very rich. For example, Phobos, an adaptation of the SF novels of the same name at the rate of 2 comics per novel, a science fiction anticipation story, where nothing less than the greatest reality show ever known. The author describes the heroine as caught in a dilemma between the infinity of space and the omnipresent control of this futuristic society, the two main themes exploited in this series. Joe the pirate also promises to be interesting, inspired by an important figure in LGBT circles. All in black and white, the designer said she took advantage of this album to deepen her work on the clear line, black and white quickly establishing itself as the most appropriate to support the story of this heroine that we can't wait to discover. We can also mention Commando Barbare, new release of Sfar planned in the year, as well as Bergères Guerrières, of which 3 volumes have already been released, for our greatest happiness. Finally, Glénat spoils us by organizing an online version of the Angoulême Comics Festival: meetings, tutorials, challenges and even signings are on the program, accessible on the Glénat website. And it starts… Right now! Lucile Gautier
