And if this summer was an opportunity to (re)immerse yourself in the fabulous bibliography of Marvel comics. We propose here five titles, five completed stories, recent or old, illustrating the richness of these mythological stories.
1. House of M
Long before Wanda Vision, screenwriter Brian Michael Bendis was exploring the danger of the Red Witch's powers. In this epic and dramatic cross-over, the reader is immersed in a dystopia where Magneto and mutants reign supreme on Earth and where the X Men do not exist. A true Greek drama, this comic had repercussions on all the Marvel series, X men in particular that followed (see the trilogy of Messiah).
2. Thor: The God-Slaughterer
Odin's son confronts Gorr. However, this quest leads him to question himself, his destiny, his strength and the meaning of his mission. This dense, beautifully imaged comic explores the roots of Norse mythology while questioning the very nature of divinity.
3. The Eternels: only death is eternal
They are a team of superheroes that Chole Zhao 's film brought out of the shadows. In this comic released in 2021, the Eternals awaken and discover that someone is killing them. They conduct the investigation at the risk of discovering the true meaning of their mission. Brilliantly imaged, the story intelligently reverses the points of view and gives all its flavor to this group of heroes.
4. Thanos wins
Thanos travels to the future and discovers his elderly double who has triumphed over all his opponents. What if victory was Thanos' worst punishment? Donny Cates, rising star of the comics, delivers a unique work, relevant and daring reflection on the psyche of one of the greatest villains of the Marvel universe.
5. 1985: The Visitors
When Mark Millar meets Stranger Things, it results in a fantasy comic book where supervillains decide to threaten our world in 1985. The only hope lies in a young boy, a comic book reader and able to summon his favorite heroes. Everything is a delight in this story: the story, the atmosphere, the drawing and the denouement. We wish you good reading and do not hesitate to send us your suggestions in the comments.
