The world of comics isn't just about DC and Marvel. There are many independent stories using the codes of comics, sometimes evoking the heroes of the two Mother Houses, while proposing their own universes. Here is a selection of five works to discover on vacation.

1. The Resistance

When J.Mr. Straczynski, the creator of the brilliant series Babylon 5 returns to the world of comics, it gives a prodigious comic. Recovering from a global catastrophe, Earth discovers that superhumans have been born. But are they saviors or prophets of doom? Carried by a magnificent drawing, this comic redefines the codes of the genre and opens a new era. Comics

2. Supercrooks

What if the universe of Ocean's Twelve telescoped that of the comics? this is the idea that drives this work by Mark Millar featuring super-villains in full crisis deciding to lead the heist of the century in Spain. Problem: their target is none other than the greatest criminal of all time. Funny, sassy, intelligent, Supercrooks is the epitome of Mark Millar's genius. 9782809438314 p 8 Five independent comics to (re)discover this summer

3. The Chimeric Brigade

Superheroes are not unique to Americans. They were actually born in Europe before mysteriously disappearing. Why? It is to this question and many others that Serge Lehman answers in this comic book tribute to both superheroes and genre literature. He delivers a cult, strong, sad work while exegesis of comic culture by reminding readers of its European origins. A work that you can taste while leafing the prodigious study of Xavier Fournier: Superheroes, a French History. PlancheA 174841 Five independent comics to (re)discover this summer

4. Joe the Inner Adventure

In this comic book by the great Grant Morrisson, Joe, a teenager is the victim of violent attacks of hypoglycemia. When they occur, it falls into the unconscious. His mind then plunges him into a world of heroic-fantasy where he must complete a quest supposed to heal him. Behind this extremely touching and beautiful story, Grant Morrisson celebrates the beauty of imaginary universes and their importance in the construction of the individual. banner Five independent comics to (re)discover this summer

5. The Paybacks

This comic was our favorite of this beginning of the year. Imagine a world where superheroes are drowning in debt by fighting crime. To force them to repay, there is only one solution: the Unpaid, a service of former heroes themselves bankrupt, who repay their creditors by chasing bad payers. Donny Cates on this hilarious premise builds a funny, energetic, ultra referenced narrative while drawing up a terrible satyr of our current world. 267608 Five independent comics to (re)discover this summer We wish you good reading and do not hesitate to send us your suggestions in the comments.
