Unless you live in a cave, you've heard of Disney+'s latest original series, WandaVision. A real phenomenon, it arouses both excitement and misunderstanding among fans of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). But what do you know about these two protagonists, Wanda and Vision? Let's go back together to the origin of this atypical couple…
Wanda to Vision
A vision of the future
The vision is a character with a rich past. Indeed, he made his first appearance in 1940, in the Marvel Mystery comics n°13 , but he is then very different from the hero we know today, he comes from another dimension! The current version of the character is the work of writer Roy Thomas and penciller John Buscema. This one appearing only in 1968 in the Avengers n ° 57! Creation of the supervillain Ultron, the Vision has disowned its creator in order to join forces with those of the Avengers. Created from the synthetic body of the first human torch and the brain of the hero Wonder Man, the Vision is no ordinary man. This synthezoid, however, proved during his adventures that he had a heart, until finally getting closer to his colleague Wanda Maximoff, aka the red witch. Together, they have experienced many battles and Vision has sometimes had to sacrifice himself to save the chosen one from his heart. No one has forgotten the tragic scene where Thanos ends the hero's life in Avengers: Infinity War. A kind of Frankenstein's monster, Vision embodies the advance of new technologies in our daily lives. It is somehow the logical outcome of any scientific creation, it is this desire for every researcher to succeed in creating life. The hero is therefore much deeper than it seems, is it the same for his wife?
A witch dressed in red
Wanda Maximoff is the image of the man she loves, a woman full of mysteries. Creation of the famous duo Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, she appeared in 1964 in X-men n°4. Just like the Vision, the Red Witch begins her career as a villain. Rescued by the mutant Magneto, her brother, Pietro, and she find themselves members of the brotherhood of evil mutants. Nevertheless, the twins do not adhere to Magneto's fixed ideas about human society and they soon join the Avengers camp. Both mutant and magician, Wanda is a complex and twisted character. Constantly tossed between good and evil, she is also the hidden daughter of Magneto, the worst enemy of the X-men! We'll avoid saying too much about Wanda's story and her powers to let you fully enjoy the WandaVision series. Just know that director Kevin Feige acknowledged in an interview that the Red Witch was undoubtedly the most powerful of the Avengers!
