Nintendo's E3, what does it look like this year?

A little more than a month before E3, the largest video game show in the world, we are now asking ourselves the question of what we can expect from the Japanese firm Nintendo?

In the spotlight

There is no denying that this beginning of the year 2018 is quite quiet on the side of Nintendo. Apart from Kirby Star Allies and Mario Tennis Aces, the news is mainly composed of ports of the Wii u with Bayonetta 1 & 2, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors or other ports unreleased from Nintendo such as Dragon Quest Builders

Yet sales of the Switch continue to grow (more than 17 million machines sold since its release), and the Japanese firm intends to extend its offensive more beautiful since it plans to sell 20 million more before the end of the fiscal year (end of March 2019). It is with this in mind that the company expands its audience with new ideas such as the Nintendo Labo, but comforts its fans of the first hour with the announcement of the long-awaited Super Smash Bros

Announced for 2018, it is therefore with a joy and a certain evidence that the fighting game will be entitled to a strong presence at the next E3 show in Los Angeles.

Events announced

This year E3 will take place from June 12 to 14, 2018, as every year in the city of Los Angeles.

The highlight of the Nintendo booth will undoubtedly be Tuesday, June 12 at 6pm. It is this moment that was chosen to broadcast the video presentation of the line-up at the end of 2018.

After the video presentation of the next Nintendo games will open the Nintendo Treehouse, consisting of 3 days of gameplay, accompanied by Nintendo staff and teams of developers.

But E3 is also an opportunity to show beautiful play through tournaments:

  • The Splatoon 2 World Championship which brings together the best players in the world (the European qualification phase took place during the Polymanga show in March 2018). It will start on Tuesday, June 12 at 0:30 with its first rounds, while the final will take place later in the day (time unknown at the moment).
  • The Super Smash Bros. Invitational 2018 is as its name suggests a competition on the new Smash Bros to be released, in which players from all over the world invited by Nintendo will participate! This tournament will follow the final of the Splatoon 2 World Championship.

The forgotten ones?

Yes, because there are. While Super Smash Bros has been announced and rumors seem to be profiling the next Pokémon as a year-end game, other games announced by Nintendo for a while have not resurfaced since.

Fire Emblem

Although the Fire Emblem saga is starting to date (first episode in 2002), the franchise has been mostly a success in Japan. Finally, it is with the episode Awakening on 3DS (the 13th of the saga) that it knows an international development. Although last year saw the appearance of two new games with Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch and new 3ds and Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile, the new "original" opus is slow to be revealed, while it is still scheduled for 2018 (according to Nintendo's annual review). Therefore, it seems normal that E3 is an opportunity to show its first images and protagonists of the title as well as its release date!

Yoshi

Yoshi on the other hand did know a promotional video, although short. It still shows an interesting concept and the bias graphically for this new opus. However, since its announcement at E3, little information has been circulating about it, while it is also just like Fire Emblem planned for this year.

Compared to last year, the year of launch of the Nintendo Switch, 2018 began feverishly on the side of the Japanese firm, therefore, it is expected at the turn, especially that following its annual review in which it announced that it wanted to sell 20 million new machines, it will not be able to rely on new major episodes of Mario or Zelda true icons of the brand. The conference will therefore obviously be a mass grave if they want to confirm the results in their sights.
