With the announcement of the third and final episode of The Banner Saga on Nintendo's hybrid console at the same time as the other media for July 26, Stoic, the American studio behind the license, and Versus Evil, its publisher, are embarking on the distribution of the first two games. The first Banner Saga of the name was released on Nintendo Switch last week, on May 18, while the second has just been dated for June 7, 2018!
The story of The Banner Saga takes place in a fantasy fictional world heavily influenced by the culture and aesthetics of the Vikings and Scandinavian peoples at large. The world is inhabited by men, but also by the Varl; Powerful horned giants once created by the gods. Once enemies, men and Varl united in the face of the growing threat of the Dredges, hostile stone beings who tried to invade the world several times. At the time of the game, the gods died, and the sun came to a standstill in the sky, interrupting the cycle of day and night. No one really knows what this is due to, but many take it as a bad sign. Added to this is the return of the Dredges long since driven far north, and the fragility of the alliance between men and Varl.
