While Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released by the end of the year, it is for a sad reality that Ubisoft is making headlines. Indeed, the newspaper Libération has collected several testimonies from former employees of the French company. They denounce inappropriate acts, ranging from harassment to sexual assault on the part of the editorial team.
When the game goes too far at Ubisoft
It is clear that the video game giant has been flailing in recent years. The investigation conducted by Libération, released today, will not help matters. Tommy François, vice president of Ubisoft's editorial team, is accused of very dubious "jokes", touching and harassment by his collaborators. The accusations come mainly from women. Being in a minority in a very masculine environment, they are the first targets of these acts. Described as a "toxic" person, Tommy François enjoys a kind of immunity because of his status. Indeed, the victims tried to complain to the HR of the company, unfortunately, they ran into a wall: "There was on the part of HR a kind of complicity induced with Tommy François" says an employee. Being stuck in an "untouchable system, protected by top management" in which only two ways out are offered: silence or resignation.
Disappointment for gamers
This is a disappointment for many passionate gamers. Ubisoft, a French company known throughout the world, a true cador of the video-game industry, sees its reputation pale. On the web, the reactions did not wait. On Twitter the #Ubisoft is currently among the trends and Internet users do not hesitate to broadcast their feelings on this case of harassment at the publisher. Zerekiel, herself a gamer, shared a thread on the blue bird's network. In her speech, she denounces this culture of silence and the fear of being "Blacklisted". Ultimately, the road to equality and respect is still long. It is deplorable that this kind of action taints the reputation of the video game industry. Ubisoft still wanted to respond to all these accusations, claiming to have opened an investigation within its teams.
