In the mafia, silence is golden. After two years of inactivity, the Twitter account of the saga has come out of its deep sleep to announce Mafia: Trilogy. A compilation of the first three opuses completely remastered, 18 years after the release of a first part revolutionary for its time.  It all started with a spark. A simple tweet, a simple word: Family. It was enough to set the hearts of fans of the mythical Mafia saga ablaze. For the youngest, Mafia boils down to the latest episode of the series: Mafia III. A fairly forgettable GTA-like, despite an excellent soundtrack featuring Jimmy Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin. The game is also regularly free on the various platforms available, which gives a slight clue about its quality. To realize the impact of Mafia, it is enough to go back a few years.

A trip to America in the 30s

Mafia is nevertheless a pillar of the video game industry of the early twenty-first century. It's 2002: the PlayStation 2 is at the top of its game. Players are passionate about Metal Gear Solid 2, GTA Vice City and the first installment of Resident Evil. Take Two, already at the origin of the young Grand Theft Auto saga, releases in the greatest discretion a brand new title on PC: Mafia. So we meet Tommy Angelo, a taxi driver at Lost Heaven, unwittingly caught in the nets of the local underworld. The immersion in the America of the 30s is immediate. The visual and sound atmosphere of the app transports players to a world still little (not?) operated at the time. The scenario is rich, the missions varied and the realization includes only rare false notes. 18 years later, all that remains in mind is a feeling of freedom and inimitable immersion. Capture4 Mafia Trilogy: The mythical saga is back, 18 years later Like the first Mafia with GTA III, Mafia II followed the release date of GTA IV in 2009. Going after such a juggernaut was not easy for the game now signed 2K. Often criticized for its repetitive appearance and camera problems, it remains the one and only Mafia in the hearts of many players. The reason? His screenplay, full of cinematographic references to the classics of the genre: The Godfather, The Escapees, The Freedmen Among the memories that the game leaves, there is also that of an absolutely unplayable chase, which surely got the better of many controllers and other wired controllers.

Dates and images

The long silence in which the saga was immured is finally over. And it is a cascade of dates that are announced until the end of the year. Indeed, the three remasters of Mafia: Trilogy will not all be released at the same time. The first episode, renamed for the occasion Mafia: Definitive Edition, is scheduled for August 28. For the moment, impossible to have more information about it: the date appeared on a card of the Xbox Store now inaccessible. What we do have are images. Whether they are drawn from the game or not, it is a pure pleasure for the retina. It will also be released much earlier: a second Xbox Store listing announces it for May 19, the date chosen by 2K to formalize all the details of Mafia: Trilogy. A compilation of the three titles would therefore be possible from September. Whether to discover or rediscover the saga, this triple remaster already promises to be excellent news. For the most impatient, here is his first trailer.
