CODumentary, a documentary about the Call Of Duty phenomenon has just been announced by Devolver Digital Films.

Who missed Call of Duty ? This series, sometimes controversial and pointed out by some players by its lack of evolution, remains very popular and makes excellent sales figures during each annual release. The FPS series is known for its multiplayer interest, campaigns and Zombie mode that leaves a large part to cooperation.

Created in 2003 by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty was originally a single-player game that put you in the shoes of a soldier in the middle of World War II. Still, competition was tough in the early 2000s. Indeed, FPS was very popular (it didn't really change in the end) and many games explored World War II in all its aspects. CODumentary looks at the reasons for this success, which has lasted for nearly 15 years. The highlight was Call of Duty Modern Warfrare released on PS3 which marked the spirits by its multiplayer mode.

CODumentary is interested in developers, fans, but also professional players. Everything was filmed in the United States, but also in Europe by Jonathan Beales, a professional with nearly 31 years of experience in the industry. The latter states:

"One of the biggest challenges of the project was to get nearly 15 years of Call of Duty into 93 minutes. I had the chance to work with a lot of great people whose contribution really made the project possible. It's an extremely rich story told through developers, fans, industry experts and professional gamers.

It's a big documentary, and we wanted to put the fans first. This explains the two successful screenings at DreamHack in Atlanta from July 21 to 23.

This exciting journey lasted five years, and even if the documentary is centered on video games, the main thing is obviously the contribution and effort of the women and men behind the phenomenon. Developing a video game, playing it or simply queuing to buy it is a rich experience in itself, which deserves to be in the first place in this kind of project. »

CODumentary is scheduled for September 19 on VOD on specialized platforms as well as on Steam
