Season 1 of Westworld plunged us brilliantly into the universe of the Western. After a last episode rich in surprises, the sequel that will land in 2018 on HBO, will focus on presenting us new places. A wise choice that should allow creative teams to arouse our interest in an expected return.
The Vanity Fair Summit was an opportunity to get some ideas for the future. Jonathan Nolan (Yes, Christopher's brother), one of the two creators of the series, revealed alongside Lisa Joy (the co-creator) that they had kept some under the elbow for the next batch of episodes. In Michael Crichton's original film, other timelines were explored such as medieval times and ancient Rome. This does not mean that the series will address the same themes.
The Samurai that could be seen at the end of season 1 may be a possible track for the sequel. The presence of the excellent Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada in the cast for season 2 could corroborate this angle if we knew the nature of his role. His name will be Musashi Miyamoto, a true reference to the land of the rising sun. It would be an undefeated legendary samurai, which has inspired many adaptations. Manga enthusiasts certainly know the Vagabond series, a critically acclaimed work.
Season 2 of Westworld promises to be rich in novelties. We're just a stone's throw away from one of the most anticipated sequels of 2018.
