At the risk of disappointing you, the announcement of this fall is not the confirmation of a fifth spin-off of Game of Thrones but the confirmation of a Watchmen series for HBO. And guess what? The one who finds himself at the helm of this project is none other than Damon Lindeloff.
After having amazed the world of seriesphiles with one of the best productions of recent years, The Leftlovers, Damon will tackle this time one of the monuments of comics, the mythical Watchmen, brought to the big screen a few years ago by Zack Snyder. Deadline reports that the series has entered the pre-production phase. The showrunner himself teased the beginning of hostilities on social networks.
The creative team is currently in the "Writers room" for the writing of the pilot and some episodes. A difficult challenge to meet as the subjects explored in the original material are not the easiest to transcribe.
Watchmen, several challenges to overcome
As a reminder, the work of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons is an uchrony taking place in the 20th century. Superheroes have had an important influence on human history. Nixon is still in power (no Watergate affair).
The atmosphere of the film and the comics is particularly dark. The first challenge for the creators will be to succeed in establishing a photograph capable of transcribing the darkness of this time. The casting will also be the keystone of this series as the characters have a personality and particular specificities.
HBO, Warner Bros. and Lindeloff should be a winning trifecta and reassured fans of the comics that this series will probably be one of the most anticipated adaptations in the heroic field. Good news as the register has struggled to renew itself in recent years (outside of Legion).
