The Simpsons family is in mourning. The series, 27 years old, has indeed lost one of its most emblematic writers…
While we regretted the death of Marcia Wallace, the voice of Edna, in 2013 and that of Sam Simon, the co-creator of the series with Matt Groening, in 2015, we learn today a very sad news. Indeed, Kevin Curran, one of the most iconic writers of the series, has just died at the age of 59 from cancer.
He joined the FOX series in 2000, where he not only wrote a dozen episodes, but he produced more than 300 in 15 years of presence. He was forced to leave the universe in 2015, when he was diagnosed with cancer. During his participation, he collected several awards, including three Emmy Awards.
Al Jean, producer of the series, pays tribute to him:
Kevin Curran was a lovely and brilliant man who said many very funny things, some of which cannot be printed, and others will live forever in a children's cartoon. "
For the anecdote, Kevin Curran also worked on the series Married, Two Children as a writer, but also as… official voice of Buck, the family dog.
The Simpsons was created in 1989 by Matt Groening and Al Jean. Since then, the show has more than 600 episodes and 28 seasons. This exceptional longevity is a record on American television. The series is particularly appreciated for its style, its characters, its humor.
Season 28 of The Simpsons has been airing in the United States since September 25.
