1014

After playing a powerful young woman in Penny Dreadful, Eva Green once again plays a heroine in the Victorian era. Adapted from the novel by New Zealander Eleanor Catton published in 2013, the series The Luminaries will take place in the middle of the gold rush. It will be set in the landscapes of New Zealand, where many Europeans settled, sometimes ambitious, sometimes desperate. Obviously, the island arouses many desires. After the success of Penny Dreadful or other significant roles in cinema, such as in Dark Shadows or Miss Peregrine and the Peculiar Children, the former James Bond girl will again be at the center of the plot. She will play a mysterious fortune teller with murky intentions. Irish actress Eve Hewson (The Knicks) and Himesh Patel (Yesterday) will also join her on the bill of The Luminaries.

A mystical plot

Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson) is a young woman who decides to change her life. On her way, she meets Emery Staines (Himesh Patel), nourishing many hopes for her future. The bewitching Lydia Wells (Eva Green) intends to set a trap for Anna, determined to thwart the appointment between these soulmates. This new series will be, as far as we know, under the sign of desire, manipulation and betrayal. Six episodes of one hour each will make up this first season. Apart from these few information, the release of The Luminaries has not really been publicized. We know that the author herself helped adapt her novel, which suggests that the adaptation will be rather faithful to it. New Zealanders will be able to discover this new series on May 17. The British would find out later. We do not yet know the release date for the France. The series was supposed to be screened at the Lille festival Series Mania in March, before the cancellation of the event because of the coronavirus.
