The American channel HBO with more than 35 million subscribers has announced for a few months now the release of a streaming platform called HBO Max. The launch date in the United States was recently confirmed for May 27, 2020. At this time, we don't have a launch date in France.
Competition in the streaming industry
The HBO Max platform, set up by the Warner Media group, will be available only a few months after Disney +. But that's not all. In the United States, the NBC Group announced the opening of its Peacock streaming service on July 15, 2020. Of course, Netflix, Amazon Prime or Apple TV continue to grow. Real competition is therefore needed in the world of legal streaming. 
In terms of price, it will take $ 14.99 for the subscription. HBO Max will therefore be more expensive than its direct competitors. This price is justified by the 10,000 hours of viewable content but also by the exclusivity of many programs that have cost them billions of dollars.
Great classics will be waiting for you
Two well-known sitcoms will be available on HBO Max. There will be the 279 episodes of Big Bang Theory but not only… The second left Netflix in the United States since January 1, 2020 following HBO's purchase of the rights to the series. The network had even planned a special meeting for the launch of HBO Max with the actors and creators of the series. The filming initially scheduled for March 23 and 24 unfortunately had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Sound familiar? 
Yes, it is of course Friends. From May 27, Americans will be able to enjoy the adventures of Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey with HBO Max. Series made in HBO will be (re)discovered, starting with Big little lies which caused a sensation with its season 2. Sex and the city, Westworld, South Park and The Sopranos will also be there. Of course let's not forget the legendary Game Of Thrones series whose 8 seasons we can find. Despite an ending that disappointed many, this series is still a classic to see or review! 
New series in development for HBO Max
The Warner Media group will adapt the post-apocalyptic video game The Last Of us, known in particular by Playstation fans. It will be led by Chernobyl series creator Craig Mazin in collaboration with game creator Neil Druckmann. This isn't HBO's only commission for an adaptation. There is also the horror film The Hellraiser which will be entitled to a serial version, it will be directed by David Gordon Green, the director of the horror film Halloween. Finally, we recently learned that the director of the latest trilogy of Star Wars J. J. Abrams had sold three series projects to HBO. A first called Duster in which we will follow a driver of a clan of mafiosi in the 1970s in the United States. The second will directly concern the DC universe since it would be an adaptation of the animated film Justice League Dark. And finally, a project called Overlook that will be inspired by the famous horror movie The Shining.
