Foreseeable? The American channel Freeform is cleaning up even in its summer schedule, and the series Dead of Summer, whose first season was broadcast in 2016, will not know a second!

Freeform (formerly ABC Family) has just announced the cancellation of its summer series Dead of Summer. The horror drama will not have a second season, and the secrets of Stillwater will remain forever!

Created by the duo Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, to whom ABC's Once Upon a Time owed, Dead of Summer was originally intended to be an anthology series in which each season would have been independent. As a result, this cancellation has a slightly less bitter taste in the sense that season 1 forms a single entity, and we did not necessarily expect a sequel.

The first season took us to the 80s, where Deb Carpenter (Elisabeth Mitchell – Ingrid in Once Upon a Time) decides to reopen her childhood summer camp, Stillwater, and prepares to welcome new vacationers for the summer. But during the introduction party of the new hosts, strange events will take place, targeting in particular the young Amy Hughes (Elisabeth Lail – Anna in Once Upon a Time). What used to be a hot and fun summer will turn into a nightmare when the secrets of the small town that houses the camp begin to emerge in the night.

After the failure and cancellation of Guilt, it is not surprising that with an average of just under 500,000 viewers, and losing more than half of its lead-in (the seventh season of Pretty Little Liars), the series is also canceled. For the most curious, the producers explained that they had planned for season 2 a dive in the Stillwater summer camp in the mid-80s, where we would have followed Deb's experiments.

The series is still unpublished in France, but just for fun, let's hope that a channel chooses to broadcast it!
