Casting renewal announcements for The Crown are well underway. We announced the arrival of Olivia Coleman to play Elizabeth II, then Helena Bonham Carter to play Princess Margaret. Today, we unveil the new actor to the cast!
And it' s Tobias Menzies ! The actor who played Frank and Black Jack Randall in the Outlander series will become Prince Philip for seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown. Tobias Menzies will succeed Matt Smith, present in the first two seasons of Netflix production.
But Tobias Menzies almost didn't get the part! It was Paul Bettany (Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) who was in talks with the production. However, for scheduling conflicts this could not materialize. There have also been rumors regarding Hugh Laurie for this role.
In addition to the Outlander series, Tobias Menzies has played in Game of Thrones the role of Edmure Tully or in Black Mirror the role of Liam Monroe.
