Thunderclap for The Crown !

In recent days, a controversy has swelled around the series The Crown. Indeed, Suzanne Mackie, executive producer of the series, made a shocking statement by revealing that the main actress Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II) would have a lower fee than Matt Smith (Prince Philip). Since then, a real media storm has been hitting producers all over the Internet.

Today, Left Bank Pictures unveils a statement relayed by TVLine :

We want to apologize to Claire Foy and Matt Smith, brilliant actors and friends, who found themselves at the center of a media storm this week, through no fault of their own.Claire and Matt are incredibly gifted actors who, along with The Crown's larger cast, have worked tirelessly to bring our characters to life with compassion and integrity.
As producers of The Crown, we at Left Bank Pictures are responsible for budgets and salaries; Actors don't know who gets what, and can't be held personally responsible for their colleagues' salaries.
We understand and appreciate the conversation that is rightly playing out in society and we are absolutely united in the fight for a fair wage, free of gender bias, and for a rebalancing of the industry's treatment of women, both in front of the camera and for those behind the scenes.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to ensure that these issues are addressed, and as a leading production company, we want to make our contribution to the debate. So we're going to chat with the Time'sUp UK campaign and ERA 50:50; Organizations that work to ensure that all women have a voice.
