After long months of waiting, the new season of the CW series The 100 has just started on a high note! Our review of episode 1.
This article contains spoilers.
Season 3 of The 100 starts 3 months after the events of the final season of season 2, and it seems that a lot has changed.
The episode begins with John Murphy. Stuck in a bunker all this time, he will quickly join Jaha and the famous A.L.I.E. Throughout the episode, Jaha tries to convince Murphy to believe that The City of Lights exists and that it is an extraordinary place. Yes, Jaha is starting to get weird we grant you.We also find with pleasure Nemori, an old acquaintance of Murphy. At the end of the episode, they all get on a makeshift boat together for a destination that is unknown to us.
Honestly the plot of virtual reality that is A.L.I.E destabilizes us a little, it is true that the story of the series takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and that the technology has necessarily evolved. It's smart for the creators of the series to address this aspect of the future that contrasts a lot with the Grounders and their traditions that one might think came from the past.
On the side of Camp Jaha, renamed Arkadia, we find with pleasure Bellamy who seems to have taken things in hand since the departure of Clarke, and it seems that he has found love with a girl hitherto unknown (sorry dear Bellarke fans). Jasper, meanwhile, has not overcome Maya's death and drowns his grief in alcohol. On the orders of Abby and Kane, Bellamy, Jasper, Octavia (on horseback, still badass), Raven, Miller and Monty leave for sector 7 in search of stranded Ark stations, and incidentally Clarke. Things do not go as planned and they find themselves facing members of the Ice Nation, for a meeting that turns out to be unsympathetic. During this scene, Jasper finds himself with a knife to his throat and starts smiling, rather frightening. The warriors are looking for a certain Wanheda (Commander of Death), who will be none other than Clarke.Joined by Indra , whom we are more than happy to see again, part of the team then goes in search of the latter, whose head is put at a price, but ends up in a bad position at the end of the episode.
We are delighted to see the whole team again, even if for them, there were better times… The plot around the different Grounder clans, their customs, their clothes or their languages is particularly interesting, and we can't wait to discover the Ice Nation in more depth, as well as the political side that links it to other clans.
Finally, on Clarke's side, a lot has changed. She is now able to kill a panther with a simple knife for food, her months of isolation have transformed her and it is not unpleasant to see Clarke fend for herself. She now sports red hair, probably not to be noticed. We understand that she has taken the habit of exchanging the product of her hunt with the pretty Niylah, a Grounder. The latter helps him hide from the men looking for him and they end up spending the night together (sorry dear Clexa fans). When she wakes up, Clarke slips away discreetly but she is caught by Roan, the man who was looking for her.
Joy does not seem to be at the rendezvous in this first episode, apart from a rather great moment of our heroes in the car that takes them out of the camp, suffering and sorrow are omnipresent. Hopefully the hardships they are going through will lead them to sunnier paths by the end of the season, but it's better not to believe too much.
So what will become of Clarke? Will Bellamy, Octavia and the others find it in time? Where are Murphy and Jaha going? Many questions arise after this first episode which announces an explosive third season.
To wait until next week, here is the promo video of episode 02 of season 3 of The 100:
