Scandal is back on ABC for its seventh and final season. Indeed, after 7 years of shenanigans and deception, Olivia Pope returns for a last lap. Our review.
A series whose end is planned is exposed to risks, including that of missing its conclusion by disappointing fans. Hopefully, Shonda Rhimes and her team are prepared because the wait is huge. Scandal has indeed offered us for several seasons plots more or less worked but the series has always captivated viewers. With this first episode entitled Watch Me, a direct sequel to the end of season 6, we are plunged directly behind the scenes of the White House. Following Luna Vargas' heart attack, Cyrus Beene took his place as vice president while Olivia found herself at the head of the B-613 in place of her father. She entrusted the keys to Olivia Pope & Associates to Quinn.
Make way for Quinn Perkins & Associates!
It is a brand new Olivia that we discover. Strong and confident, she enjoys having power and controlling things. The new president Grant wants to pass a big bill in favor of free university. That requires votes. Olivia is there to lobby, accompanied by Cyrus. But is it really reliable? This episode shows us a new Cyrus. It is far from the time of jacket flips, the man seems to have calmed down. He is behind the president whatever it takes, despite Olivia's doubts. Doubts however mitigated at the end of the episode when we understand the manipulation of Miss Pope. Cyrus has passed the test and can therefore, according to his criteria, remain in the White House.
Olivia still sleeps with Jack Ballard. Just like before. But the situation is no longer the same. Olivia is The Commander now. He will quickly understand it at the end of the episode. While remaining the same woman of character as before, Olivia evolves and it is Jack who will pay the price. His beginning of history with the TV presenter can bring a little novelty, to see the treatment of the plot in the long term.
OPA is no more, place to QPA! Quinn Perkins & Associates is in trouble. There are no more customers since Olivia's departure and you can't count on David to find any. Fortunately, a case arises, which will link all the characters together. It is nice to find Abby, Quinn, Charlie and Huck despite the few scenes. Quinn can become an excellent leader, just like her mentor. Let's give her a chance, supported as she is, it can give good work. The upcoming birth of his child should spice it up!
In conclusion, despite the absence of Fitz's character, Scandal returns in great shape for its last lap. The plots seem mapped out for the season, Olivia is stronger than ever, and the gallery of supporting characters is effective. It remains to be seen where all this will take us and what will be the conclusion of the series…
