Announced in June 2015, the return of Prison Break for a fifth season of 9 episodes has just taken place on the American channel FOX. With a first episode entitled Ogygia, fans were able to find their favorite characters absent from the screens since the end of the series in 2009.
The series Prison Break (2005-2009) had its moments of glory. Despite a very disappointing quality from the third season, coupled with aberrations bigger than each other (we will not talk about Sara's head and the famous box for example!), it remains one of the most popular series of the 2000s. The first episode of this revival begins seven years after the death of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) has since remarried and is raising her son in an upscale suburb. She sees Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), her late husband's brother arrive with a strange photo where we can see Michael alive and locked in a prison. We soon discover that this photo is from T-Bag (Robert Knepper) on the day of his release from Fox River Penitentiary. Lincoln is convinced that his brother is still alive and intends to find him, whatever it takes…
It must be recognized that what takes precedence first in this brand new episode is not the scenario but the feeling of nostalgia that invades us. From the first notes of the credits, we are transported back a few years. Finding after all these years the characters of Prison Break is rather heartwarming. Seeing Michael, Lincoln and Sara again is rather exhilarating. If in addition, we add T-Bag, C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar), Paul Adelstein (Kellerman) and Sucre (Amaury Nolasco)! Once this return to the past is digested, it is nice to see that the plot of this episode grabs us immediately. How did Michael survive? Will he finally be able to meet his son? So many questions that will hopefully find answers by the end of the season.
The writers seem to have mastered the plot, we have to see what the next episodes will give, now that Michael's character is back. No one knows yet what has happened in the seven years since the final TV movie. We dare to hope that relevant flashbacks will punctuate the current plot. From there to imagine Lincoln returning to prison to free his brother, there is only one step.
In conclusion, playing the nostalgia card thoroughly, the return of Prison Break is rather a success. Despite a plot as amazing as in the last seasons, we hope that it will live up to this revival. The simple fact of finding the two brothers is already an excellent thing. To see how the next escape will be treated!
