Grey's Anatomy just celebrated its 300th episode on ABC on November 9. An episode between modernity and nostalgia. Our review.
300 episodes and almost not a wrinkle! Shonda Rhimes' medical series has just celebrated this anniversary through an episode full of winks, a true tribute to all the characters of the series since the first episode. And we must recognize that she has seen characters parade! Arrivals, departures, even returns! "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" is also a tribute to the fans of the first hour, filled with musical references or unforgettable memories. Even if the episode itself does not advance the plot of the season, it at least has the merit of presenting us with a case of the week featuring lookalikes of Cristina, George and Izzie. The perfect opportunity to revive the four iconic characters of the beginnings, Meredith, Alex, Bailey and Richard situations with an air of déjà vu.
Once upon a time, 12 years ago…
Meredith, who is nominated for the Harper Avery, gives herself open-hearted in the care of these young interns who look a lot like her friends. The young woman has not lost the taste for medicine, despite all the misadventures encountered in the past. Seeing her at the end of the episode happy to receive the famous award, under the eyes of the ghost of her mother Ellis is a reward both for the character and for fans who have been following Meredith's journey for more than 12 years now. From the ferry she takes at the beginning of the episode (direct tribute to Derek) to her daughter Zola who confesses that she misses her dad and that she wants to become a neurosurgeon, all the references plunge us into a delicious memory. The few images of the credits accompanied by the music " Cosy in the Rocket" of Psapp remind us of the great hours of the series, when our favorite interns squatted the tunnels of the hospital, as do today the little newcomers …
The other characters are not left out either. Hearing Lexie Grey's name resonate at the heart of Jackson's speech takes us back in time once again. Sofia's return to Arizona also brings out images of a time spent when she, Mark Sloan and Callie lived happily. We must give credit to Shonda Rhimes and her team for a real know-how regarding the treatment of the characters. All of them have grown, they have evolved along with the public. We are a bit part of the family and seeing Alex imagine the life he dreams for his ex-wife Izzie proves to us if we had to the evolution of these former interns who have become great…
In conclusion, this 300th episode of Grey's Anatomy is like a little candy. A beautiful bite that brings back lots of memories while marking its time. Meredith finally achieves the fame she deserves. All the characters are entitled to their little wink. An enchanted parenthesis in the heart of a resolutely modern season.
