February is already over! You know what that means? That we have concocted a small list of the best series of this month! On the program of February, a lot of SF, barred police officers and a fantastic and family anime.

Roxane's February favourite: Superman & Lois

The American channel The CW spoils us again with a promising series on a superhero! And not least, since it is one of the oldest in the history of American pop culture. You got it right, we're talking about Superman. Created in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the character was first adapted into comics in 1938. The red-caped hero then had several faces such as Kirk Alyn, Christopher Reeve, Tom Welling or Henry Cavill. Today, it's Tyler Hoechlin's turn to put on the blue tights! His face may tell you something, it's normal, he had already made an appearance in this role during the episodes of the Arrowverse "Crisis on Infinite Earth". Just like Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane, the famous journalist of the Daily Planet and companion of Clark Kent. The series follows the adventures of Clark and Lois in their daily lives, and mainly in their role as parents. They have two 14-year-old twins, Jordan and Jonathan played respectively by Alexander Garfin and Jordan Elass. Far from the first representations of the invincible and self-confident superhero, we meet a more human Superman, who doubts, and wonders, he must, moreover, take care of his family and in particular one of his sons, suffering from severe anxiety. Mental health issues are addressed from the outset and in an intelligent way. A promising first episode, with an impeccable color treatment and a nice nod to the first comics. The first episode of the Superman & Lois series aired on February 23 on The CW. Check out the trailer of Superman&Lois below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2cIVMe80Nk

David's favourite: Kid Cosmic

As an animation fan, you couldn't miss this new Netflix original creation, Kid Cosmic The new series from the creator of The Powerpuff Girls (or the Super Girls in French) is also eyeing the side of superheroes. We follow the daily life of kid Cosmic, a young boy fan of comics whose imagination is more than overflowing. Basically, he could be any child fan of Marvel or DC Comics heroes. It is therefore rather easy to identify with him in a society where beings endowed with extraordinary faculties are legion in pop-culture (My Hero Academia, One Piece…). The big difference between him and us is that he lives in a city where there are more scorpions than human beings. And, icing on the cake, he will find himself facing gems of power. He quickly realized that they gave those who wear them special aptitudes. We quickly think of the Green Lantern or Avengers: Endgame, since our young hero wears these rings of power in his hand. Instead of keeping these rings to himself, he chooses the best elements at his disposal, exceptional beings handpicked … Oh no, actually, it's a very ordinary team. We have her best friend, a teenager working alongside her mother in a fast-food restaurant, her grandfather, a little girl and a cat. On paper, this is not the team we would bet on… And yet, to face dangers from the 4 corners of space, these joyful drills must learn to trust each other. The tone is refreshing, we do not get bored since the episodes are only about ten minutes on average. The animation is of quality and the colors chosen stick well to the atmosphere of the series. The strength of the show lies mainly in this heterogeneous group that will make many mistakes but will learn to progress together. And we recognize through the original villains, the fights roundly conducted, the singular paw of the crazy creator. Kid Cosmic is the Netflix series you can watch with your kids. A must for any parent looking to share their passion with their loved ones. Check out the trailer of Kid Cosmic below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBZ9UkhblkM&ab_channel=NetflixFutures

Aubin's February favourite: WandaVision

Directed by Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision is the first Marvel Studios series to make it to Disney+. The first show that will pave the way for many other series planned in the years to come. WandaVision tells a new story about The Red Witch and Vision still played respectively by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. After the longest hiatus the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has seen due to COVID-19, Jac Scheffer is tasked with opening Phase 4 of the MCU. A daunting task. And for this first Marvel series, the firm took some risks. It's hard to take that away from him. Because WandaVision is certainly the product that is furthest away from the MCU formula right now. It's the most explosive, original, and creative proposition since the creation of the MCU in 2008. So everything is not perfect, far from it, but we must highlight the unprecedented risk-taking of Marvel Studios, which seeks (finally) to offer novelties to its fans. It must be said that the first black and white episodes in the form of a sitcom have destabilized more than one. In any case, WandaVision allows you to enter the depths of the psyche of The Red Witch, a complex and ambiguous heroine. Comic book readers will certainly be thrilled by the multitude of references to paper stories. The series is full of easter eggs of all kinds, which continues to feed theories more exciting than each other. And despite its flaws, WandaVision reassures about the qualities of the Marvel Studios series. Check out the trailer of WandaVision below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj9J2ecsSpo

Barbara's February favorite: Brooklyn Nine Nine season 7

Spoilers alert! Season 7 of Brooklyn Nine Nine is finally available on Netflix and as for the previous seasons, you can probably imagine, binge-watching is highly recommended! The 13 episodes of about twenty minutes are watched very quickly and revolve around a very specific subject: the future child of Jack (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero). A social subject that affects many couples since Amy has many difficulties to get pregnant. However, unlike previous seasons, we could criticize the concentration and speed of information. Indeed, all the episodes are extremely condensed (13 episodes against nearly twenty for the others) and the information is therefore shared very quickly without exploiting them in depth. Amy's pregnancy, for example, is discussed in all episodes but in a superficial way, the same for Doug Judy's wedding. In addition, the police investigation side that was basically the pillar of this series, mixed with humor of course, is completely forgotten. It is the relationships between friends that are put forward and their job as cops becomes almost secondary. Despite these small criticisms, this series deserves to be watched in its entirety, and the seventh season is a time of total fun and relaxation. The characters are fortunate to have been developed throughout this series which allows viewers to attach themselves very easily and even to plan certain actions. The great classics such as the Halloween heist or the arrival of Doug Judy and Adrien Pimento are present and good surprises also make their effect (with the appearance of J.K. Simmons in particular). These few lines for you strongly recommend this series if you want to laugh and relax in these rather strange times. This is the perfect series on Netflix to be able to escape the time of the series. But be careful, do not get too attached to the characters because the separation may be difficult knowing that season 8 will be the last …. Elisa's February favorite: Siren

An American fantasy series arrives in force on Amazon Prime this month: Siren (season 1 & 2). Broadcast in 2018 on the French channel 6ter, and in 2020 on Teva, it makes you discover the world of mermaids, but be careful not the nice mermaids of Disney … These could put you in lint. It follows the story of Ryn, a young mermaid who arrives in the port city, Bristol Cove, seeking to save her sister from the military. During her journey on earth, she meets many people who will become her friends, including a couple, Ben and Maddie, with whom her relationship will evolve enormously (from friendship to love). If the subject of mermaids may put off some, know that it is really approached in a different, darker and animal way. The series deals with different current themes: environmental problems, poly-love, mourning, revenge, the codes of society… This series really surprised me because they managed to take a little girl tale subject and turn it into an adult series. I advise you to watch the series in VO, because the original voices are so much more engaging in the universe. Skeptical at first, I still fell in love very quickly, which is why I encourage you to discover this series and the characters who carry this series.
