Teaser 2 3 Omar Sy, conquering Netflix. In the shadow of Arsène, a controversial role

A meaning that had escaped us in the work of Maurice Leblanc

In the first place, the author puts into perspective a meaning that had escaped us. For example, belonging to a class, social injustice, the fight of a lone hero against a corrupt system…The myth of the vigilante hero makes sense. A bit like a Robin Hood, or a Zorro, who strips the rich for a certain moral justice. The dandy has no face and can take on all identities. The myth of the hero who is not identifiable and who evolves in society without being unmasked.

Omar Sy, a role to his measure?

Netflix, which showcases film and audiovisual productions from all countries, is a platform that celebrates cultural diversity. Also, this role finally appears to the measure of Omar Sy, whose filmography offers few characters in French cinema that do not refer to his origins. Here, this precision appears anecdotal or even superfluous. The French series has nothing to envy to Colombian, Spanish, Mexican, American action series. With a nice bonus, violence is almost non-existent in the series.

A well-made series

The aesthetics of the images are very neat, with magnificent plans of the pyramid and the Louvre Museum. There are rare clumsiness in the scenario.Omar Sy sometimes overplays, the character looks too much like the Omar Sy we know. However, this last observation has no justification except to nitpick and moderate all the good that inspires this series.      By the way, who was this famous Arsène Lupin?  Arsène Lupin is a character created by Maurice Leblanc  in the 1900s, in the form of a popular soap opera. Published weekly in newspapers (the stories, contemporary with those of Ronan Doyle – author of Sherlock Holmes) present a character who steals high society and manages each time to escape justice. It is said that the author was inspired by the great thieves of the time who made the front page of the news.   Finally, the series ends with a suspense ending that closes the first part. We can't wait to see what's next!
