The Dawson's Creek actor will step into the shoes of a DJ in a new series called What Would Diplo Do? And it already looks great.
We had found James Van Der Beek in small projects right and left in recent years and we loved him in his own role (more stupid) in the series Don't Trust The B**** in Apartment 23 which unfortunately did not have the success it deserved. This time, he is really back and he will play Diplo, a DJ co-creator of the trio now known worldwide Major Lazer. The actor will have a triple hat in the creation of this project: actor, producer and screenwriter. That's promising!
James Van Der Beek said he was extremely happy to be able to play Diplo in a series because he is "a guy who can make a crowd of 60,000 people dance… but who fears a little one-on-one." So we will probably find a comedy show that will not take the lead, a little cynical but not too much, a little silly but not too much, in short a marvel à la Van Der Beek in collaboration with the Viceland channel!
It is from a mini-sketch of 2 minutes that the channel was interested in the idea: in this video, James Van Der Beek pretends to be Diplo and shows his audience what is "a day in the life of Diplo". Viceland contacted Kevin Kusatsu, Diplo's manager, to offer to adapt this video into a series format.
What Would Diplo Do? should be completed "later in 2017", but the mini-sketch can for now give you an idea of what you can expect!
