A literary saga that began in 1984 with Red October, the books by English author Tom Clancy featuring the character of Jack Ryan, a CIA agent, have been a real success. Amazon has officially ordered a series based on this saga, which should focus on the beginning of Jack Ryan's adventures at the CIA.

Actor John Krasinski (The Office) will play the role of the agent in this series whose first season is scheduled for ten episodes. At his side, actress Abbie Cornish (seen in the movie Limitless) will play the love-interest of the character, Cathy Mueller, a doctor specializing in infectious diseases, presented as brilliant.

The series is based on an idea by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland. It will not be a direct adaptation of Tom Clancy's series of novels. It will be produced by Paramount Television and Skydance Television.

"We are thrilled to add the global Jack Ryan franchise to our catalogue of original series. Our customers will be able to enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed book series, further raising the bar for storytelling," said Roy Price, Head of Amazon Studios.

Jack Ryan has already been portrayed in cinema by four actors:

  • Harrison Ford in War Games in 1992 and Immediate Danger in 1994
  • Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears in 2002
  • Chris Pine in The Ryan Initiative in 2013

We look forward to finding this spy whose reputation is well established in this new TV series!
