Like Charmed who had the right to his reboot (much criticized), Gossip Girl should also pass. Fans have been crossing their fingers since February 2019, rumors about the return of the series circulate. Could Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Dan Humphrey and Chuck Bass make a comeback? It was in July 2019 that a reboot of the series was confirmed by deadline magazine! Joshua Safran, one of the creators of the series, has confirmed that he is working on the return of the mythical show. Like the original, this new version of Gossip Girl will be based on the books by Cecily Von Ziegesar and HBO has already ordered 10 episodes. Lies, manipulation, betrayal… Everything should be in place for this return to be a success. But then what exactly do we know about this long-awaited comeback? According to Safran, the plot begins "twelve or thirteen years after" the first series. Even though the Gossip Girl site seems to have been on standby for all this time, someone is ready to take over! The topics discussed should be in tune with the times, especially with social networks. Change of scenery as well. Indeed, the creators of the series are thinking of placing the various protagonists in Brooklyn (and not in the Upper West Side). Overall, the original cast (with the exception of Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick) is rather open to the idea of this new version, as well as that of returning for a few appearances. Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, The Good Place) will reprise her original role as the voice-over of Gossip Girl. The big change will be in the identity of Gossip Girl who will not be a person, but a group of people.
"We're all Gossip Girl now. In our own way, we are all purveyors of our own state of surveillance on social media." Josh Schwartz for E!Entertainment.
For the moment, the new casting is announced in dribs and drabs. Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge, Code Black) will play the title role and will be joined by Whitney Peak (The New Adventures of Sabrina), Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars), Jonathan Fernandez (Lethal Weapon), Jason Gotay, Thomas Doherty (Legacies), Tavi Gevinson, Adam Chanler-Berat and Zion Moreno. No release date has been announced. But at JustFocus, we stay on the lookout! Xoxo 😉
