Freeform officially orders a pilot for the US remake of Misfits.
The American channel Freeform has just announced the official order of a pilot for the remake of the British series Misfits. Originally broadcast on E4 in the UK between 2009 and 2013, the series ran for a total of 5 seasons.
This brand new version of Misfits will be written by Diane Ruggiero-Wrigth (Veronica Mars) and will be produced by the duo Josh Schwartz/Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl). The cast of this adaptation will include Tre Hall (Rebel), Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black), Ashleigh LaThrop (Sirens) and Jack Cannavale (Nurse Jackie). They will play all members of a group of young offenders who are forced to do community service. One day, they find themselves caught in the middle of a violent electrical storm that gives them all powers.
American remake requires, we must expect a tone much less free than the original series, which could sometimes shock by its language and its words. It is obvious that the Freeform chain is looking for an identity. This is indeed the second superheroic series ordered by the channel after Marvel's Cloak and Dagger.
Let's wish this remake of Misfits to place the simple order of a pilot and become a series in its own right!
